About this listen

Can she save the world she was created to destroy?

"Features the best creature of the year!" Grady Hendrix, bestselling author of Horrorstör

Specially developed for the audiobook platform, this haunting dark fantasy uses narration, immersive music and songs to tell a powerful story of revenge, passion and redemption.

Butterfly has been created as an assassin, and is driven by violent urges that she can't control. Making her way through the Paradise of Rain, a mysterious forest recovering from the devastation of war, Butterfly unquestioningly pursues her quarry, while fending off the attacks of the strange beasts who try to stop her in her tracks.

Everything changes when Butterfly finally catches up with her prey. She discovers a terrible truth about her bloodline, and realizes she must change her path of destruction. The fate of the forest lies in her hands. Can Butterfly untangle the threads of her fate to save the Paradise of Rain from disaster — and, by doing so, redeem herself?

Richard Sontaag has crafted a movie-length young adult (YA) fantasy which sends an important message about our treatment of nature. Listen and learn the secrets of the Paradise of Rain!

Story and music work very well together

I was intrigued by the fact it was narration and music, and a bit surprised that everything worked together so well. The music parts actually tell the story, which is quite unusual. The main narrator has a very relaxing voice, and the whole thing was actually quite relaxing to listen to.

A story about identity with monsters

The narrator does a good job at bringing this world to life and I liked all the descriptions of the monsters. The story is about a kind of butterfly girl finding her identity and it jumps when it goes from the story to the songs, but I liked the music and will listen to it again.

Must listen!! Instrumentals are superb.

I've never listened to a story that involved music and vocals before, but I have to say that I was pleasantly engaged and enjoyed the story. It's entertaining but also carries a captivating story with enchanting vocals and instruments. I highly recommend for anyone who's looking to experience a unique story that also carries an important message.

The first audiobook musical?

This falls somewhere between an audiobook, a rock opera, a musical and an audio drama. I thought it would be cheesy, but it's quite cool. The story is simple and there's not much character building so it's more of a dark fairy tale or fable. I would have liked more layers to the story. but overall I enjoyed it.
