About this listen
Between December 9 and December 12, 1531, that miracle happened, and it forever changed the future of the continent. It was then that the Virgin Mary famously appeared to a Native American Christian convert on a hilltop outside of what is now Mexico City. The image she left imprinted on his cloak, or tilma, has puzzled scientists for centuries, and yet Our Lady of Guadalupe's place in history is profound. A continent that just months before the apparitions seemed completely lost to Christianity suddenly and inexplicably embraced it by the millions. Our Lady of Guadalupe's message of love replaced the institutionalized violence of the Aztec culture and built a bridge between two worlds - the old and the new - that were just 10 years earlier engaged in brutal warfare.
Today, Our Lady of Guadalupe continues to inspire the devotion of millions. From Canada to Argentina - and even beyond the Americas - one finds great devotion to her and great appreciation for her message of love, unity, and hope. Today reproductions of the Virgin's miraculous image can be seen throughout North and South America, in churches and homes, on billboards, and even on clothing. Her shrine in Mexico City, where the miraculous image is housed to this day, is one of the most visited in the world.
In Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of the Civilization of Love, Carl Anderson and Eduardo Chavez trace the history of Our Lady of Guadalupe from the 16th century to the present and discuss how her message was and continues to be an important catalyst for religious and cultural transformation.

The Story of a Soul conveys St. Therese of Lisieux's "Little Way" of spiritual childhood - her "elevator" to Heaven, as she called it. This method was approved by Pope Pius XI as a way for all to grow in holiness through unfailing confidence and childlike delight in God's merciful love. Again and again in this audiobook, St. Therese shows us how her "Little Way" of love and trust comes straight from Sacred Scripture.

Story
The saints, the heroes of the Roman Catholic faith, lived lives of holiness, dedicated to serving God. The saints lived at different times in different places throughout history, but they all shared a love of God that has been documented through the teachings of the Church. Today, the saints serve as examples for all Catholics, showing the believers how to lead a more spiritual life. Catholic devotions are particular customs, rituals and practices of worship or in honour of the saints that are in addition to the liturgy of the Catholic Church.

In recent years, Christians everywhere are rediscovering the Jewish roots of their faith. The book recounts the life of the Virgin Mary and the divine plan both for creation and the salvation of souls. According to María de Ágreda, the book was mostly dictated to her by the Virgin Mary herself. The book moves between describing the Trinity, the Virgin Mary's life, and providing spiritual guidance to the author, which also spiritually benefits the listener. The book describes the virtues and how the listener ought to conduct his or her life using the Virgin Mary as a model for holiness.

Over the past hundred years, scholars have attacked the historical truth of the Gospels and argued that they were originally anonymous and filled with contradictions. In The Case for Jesus, Brant Pitre taps in to the wells of Christian scripture, history, and tradition to ask and answer a number of different questions, including: If we don't know who wrote the Gospels, how can we trust them? How are the four Gospels different from other Gospels, such as the lost Gospel of "Q" and the Gospel of Thomas?

Of all things Catholic, there is nothing that is so familiar as the Mass. With its unchanging prayers, the Mass fits Catholics like their favorite clothes. Yet most Catholics sitting in the pews on Sundays fail to see the powerful supernatural drama that enfolds them. Pope John Paul II described the Mass as "Heaven on Earth," explaining that what "we celebrate on Earth is a mysterious participation in the heavenly liturgy."

Editorial reviews
On an early December morning in the 16th century, The Virgin Mary, Mother of God, appeared to a Mexican peasant on a hill near Mexico City. So goes the legend of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the peasant, Juan Diego, who was canonized in 2002. American actor John Allen Nelson (Santa Barbara, Baywatch) lends his sincere voice to this unbelievable tale that has helped shape the church for half a millennium.
Written by Monsignor Eduardo Chavez and Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus and former assistant to Jesse Helms, this audiobook is a history of the Virgin in Mexico, and a breezy hagiography for the devout.

Story
Many Christians today tend to view the story of medieval faith as a cautionary tale. Too often, they dismiss the Middle Ages as a period of corruption and decay in the church. They seem to assume that the church apostatized from true Christianity after it gained cultural influence in the time of Constantine, and that the faith was only later recovered by the 16th-century Reformers or even the 18th-century revivalists. As a result, the riches and wisdom of the medieval period have remained largely inaccessible to modern Protestants.

He was at once down-to-earth and reaching toward heaven, grounded in the rich history of the Church while moving toward a new understanding of the world beyond. Franciscan Father Richard Rohr helps us look beyond the birdbath image of the saint to remind us of the long tradition founded on Francis' revolutionary, radical, and life-changing embrace of the teachings of Jesus.

Through a variety of forms—original essays, historical writings, short fiction, drama, and poetry—the illustrious contributors to this literary anthology examine the impact this potent deity, the Lady of Guadalupe, has had on the people and culture of Mexico, and her influence beyond that country, in Latin America, North America, and Europe.

Great Insights into Our Lady of Guadalupe
I was particularly impressed with the description of Our Lady's robe and the star constellation charting that appears on it in parallax view, the view that one would have if looking at the stars from Heaven back towards the Earth. For those who have faith no explanation is necessary. For those who do not have faith, no explanation is possible.

Wonderful story. just too little of it told.
They tell the basic story, but, spend too much time in analysis and offering opinion. they would have done better to focus on any miracles that occured because of Devine Mothers appearence and not spend the amount of time breaking down the intracasies of the language spoken by Juan and the Blessed Mother. They tried to jump from a faith building story to a scholarly work. and it doesn't work. They tried to take a story that could have been told in less than 25 pages and bulked it up with nonsense that had little to do with the story. so buyer beware.

Good book but difficult to get through
I really enjoyed this book because I absolutely love the story of Our Lady. However, it was hard to stay focused because many things seemed repetitive. The first chapter was very long when it could have been shorter. The actual story is fascinating but the theological and technical information was just too dry for me.
