About this listen

*The definitive biography of King Charles III, by Sunday Times bestselling author Robert Jobson, published on the eve of the Coronation*

'To Charles, being monarch has nothing to do with power - he believes his role is to lead. It is up to others whether they choose to follow.'

When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022, it sent shockwaves around the world. The longest reigning and oldest monarch, at ninety-six years of age, she had just publicly celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. The Queen's death meant the passing of the Crown to her son, HRH Charles, Prince of Wales, her controversial, earnest, and outspoken heir, who had long lived in the shadow of her mystique.

King Charles III's own life has been marred by scandal and myth, but who is the real man behind the Crown? In this revelatory book, renowned royal correspondent and author Robert Jobson examines the life of our new King, and his passions, purpose, and motivations. On the eve of his landmark coronation, Our King considers the life of the man and the monarch, reflecting on how his values and beliefs will shape him as he takes on this monumental role.

Well, written and interesting

Well, written book. I follow the royal family and English history pretty closely, so it wasn’t that I learned a lot of new things, but I did get a better chronology of Megxit. I intend to awake at 2 AM on May 6 to watch the coronation.

Good content. Weird narration.

The content of the material was good and there were some new revelations. One criticism - The narrator sounded like a mashup of Derek Zoolander and Ronald Reagan when he read The King’s quotations. Diana’s quotes sounded equally cringy. Otherwise, it was a good listen.

Get this book! You won't be disappointed!

I'm so glad that someone wrote a book about king Charles that delves into his character, personality, his vision of the world. I came to admire his sense of humor and determination to make our planet a better place for all. He is a very complex human being that certainly deserves to be king. I highly recommend this book OUR KING CHARLES III.

A Really Good Listen!

As an American Royal watcher the thought has often occurred to me King Charles took the brunt of the blame for his break up with Diana at the time for the sake of his boys. I’m glad to hear another side of the story.

Absolutely nothing new

I’m surprised this was even published. There was absolutely nothing new and so much repetitive content that everyone has already heard over and over. And so much didn’t even focus on Charles. The author clearly disliked Diana and clearly dislikes Harry. Very disappointed I bought this. The author should have waited a year to publish something and focused on Charles first year as King.

Extremely subjective

Robert Jobson's book reads like a PR job for King Charles. It is rather one sided and portrays King Charles as a heroic victim of his destiny and malice of others. He described Princess Diana as emotionally unstable and erratic justifying King Charles' affair with Camilla. Robert Jobson even tries to convince the reader that King Charles was one of the few people, who deemed the Iraq invasion a grave political mistake and would have advised against it. This book is disappointing, partial and silly.

Nothing New

This is a tepid retelling of a story that is already well known by pretty much the whole world. The only thing I learned from the entire book is that Prince William switched his major from Art History to Geography - probably a good move - while studying at St. Andrews University in Scotland.

Author Jobson does a fair job of writing an impartial account of the comings and goings of the assorted players in the royal soap opera, but very clearly has a low opinion of Princess Diana, her son Harry, and of course, Megan Markle. It is equally clear that he respects and admires the new king.

Narration is stuffy sounding.
