About this listen
Our Fine Romance is the true story of two young people who grew up separately during the London Blitz of 1940, and were both evacuated into the English countryside. Following their unusual meeting, courtship, and marriage, they emigrated to "Apartheid" South Africa. Three years and two children later, for financial reasons, they made the risky decision to move to Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), close to the war-ravaged Republic of Congo.
During their life there in the 1960s, the "Wind of Change" was sweeping through the Colonial African States. Many British territories became independent during this time and, after another child and 10 years in Africa, they decided to start a new life on the West Coast of Canada. With the addition of a fourth child and successful careers in their adopted country, Maureen and Michael are both now retired and living in Vancouver, Canada, but a turn of events has led to their biggest challenge yet; a lengthy Alzheimer's journey!

Story
'Between the Stops is a sort of a memoir, my sort. It's about a bus trip really, because it's my view from the Number 12 bus (mostly top deck, the seat at the front on the right), a double-decker that plies its way from Dulwich, in South East London, where I was living, to where I sometimes work - at the BBC, in the heart of the capital. It's not a sensible way to write a memoir at all, probably, but it's the way things pop into your head as you travel, so it's my way'.

Nick and Lesley Albert yearn to leave the noise, stress, and pollution of modern Britain and move to the countryside, where the living is good, the air sweet, with space for their dogs to run free. Suddenly out of work and soon to be homeless, they set off in search of a new life in Ireland, a country they had never visited. As their adventure began to unfold, not everything went according to plan. How would they cope with banks that didn’t want customers, builders who didn’t need work, or the complex issue of where to buy some chickens?

Story
Giselle Burgess was a young mother of five trying to provide for her family. Though she had a full-time job, the demands of ever-increasing rent and mounting bills forced her to fall behind, and eviction soon followed. Giselle and her kids were thrown into New York City's overburdened shelter system, which housed nearly 60,000 people each day. They soon found themselves living at a Sleep Inn in Queens, provided by the city as temporary shelter; for nearly a year, all six lived in a single room with two beds and one bathroom.
