More than a decade after Kelley Armstrong first opened the doors to the Otherworld, fans are still clamoring for more. In response to their demands - and to coincide with the Syfy Network show based on the series - Plume has signed up three Otherworld anthologies, each of which revolves around a different theme. The second in the trilogy, Otherworld Secrets, features fan favorites such as Cassandra, Savannah, and Adam in rare and never-before-published short stories - plus a brand new novella. Good but wasn’t the best

Some of the narrators fell a little flat. I know these are short stories but the way they were written seemed a little amateur like for Kelly Armstrong.

What You Need to Know Before Buying

Otherworld Secrets is a group of short stories in the Otherworld realm. The main disappointment is that I had read/heard most of the short stories in other books. These were previously written short stories/novellas and Otherworld Secrets description of content is a misrepresentation. Ironically, the description says: “The second in the trilogy, Otherworld Secrets, features fan favorites such as Cassandra, Savannah, and Adam in rare and never-before-published short stories - plus a brand new novella.” Not True. So, check your library to see how many of these stories you have. If, like me, you are an avid fan then you’ve read/heard many of these stories. Some of the ones I had were in paperback or kindle format but “Counterfeit Magic” & “Angelic” are also in Audible or MP3 format. After an extensive search I did find a printed list of the contents of Otherworld Secrets.

Here is a list of the short stories in this book:
[all were in print unless noted & some I had as MP3 books]

1) Life After Theft – new Hope/Karl novella [I didn’t have this one]
2) Forbidden – Subterranean Press 2012 Elena/Clay novella #10.2
3) Angelic – Subterranean Press 2009 Eve/Kristof novella #9.5 [Audible & MP3]
4) Zen and the Art of Vampirism – Zoe novella from Subterranean Press’s long-sold out? “A Fantasy Medley” #9.2 published 2009 – not sure what the long-sold out reference is about thus ?
5) The Ungrateful Dead – Jaime short story from “Blood Lite” anthology published 2008 paperback/kindle usually listed Jim Butcher as first author [ I got during a Halloween promo]
6) Counterfeit Magic – Subterranean Press 2010 Paige/Lucas novella #10.4 [Audible & MP3]

I’m not sure how to rate this because all the stories are good to excellent but the publisher or Amazon/Audible doesn’t reveal they ARE previously published novellas except “Life after Theft”. I didn’t know until I had listened to the book and realized that they were ones I had read/listened to previously. I kept hoping that most weren’t published before…but, alas, they were. .

I guess I could look on the bright side and say that I now have this collection in one place. However, that little voice in my head keeps saying duplicate…duplicate…duplicate; I bought these before & the publisher or Amazon/Audible lied about what I was getting.
