About this listen

There are some things with this version...

Good narration, but there are some parts missing from the original story. Chunks of it.

There is some music in betwwen the chapters that are very loud if you are listening with headphones.

Great for Language Comprehension Practice

I like to listen to books in other languages for language practice.

This works best if it is a book that I have already listened to/read in English,
as then the material is more familiar.

For new languages, I will often try to listen to a book in parallel:
say, 15 minutes of English, then 15 minutes of the other languages, etc.
As of yet, there is a fairly limited selection of foreign language audiobooks available in the U.S. store, and an even smaller selection that are available in both English and a variety of other languages.

(And, for some reason, the Spanish ones seem often to be abridged, which makes them much less useful for this type of "rosetta stone" parallel listening practice.)

But it is slowly getting better.

Congratulations to Audible for slowly increasing its foreign language material,
and here is hoping that it will continue to do so.

And perhaps some books in Mandarin and Arabic also?

Excellent reader. But the tinny music at the end of each chapter is awful.

A wonderful classic. I’m learning French and listening to a work I know well was very helpful. The musical interludes were jarring, tinny, and annoying, however.

Should’ve taken the reviews seriously

My apologies to the previous reviewer commenting on the musical interludes, I did not take your warning seriously enough. This is a great book, with a great narrator, but that music! Awful. And often almost a full minute between each chapter. A minute may not sound long, but when you are praying for it to end… it feels an age. Honestly dragged the whole production down. Very strange choice, and a lot of the music sounded slightly off key.
