Lazily edited and useless narration of Oregon’s Wikipedia page

This sounds like an AI narrator reading highlights from Oregon’s Wikipedia page.

Unless you have literally never heard of Oregon and have zero knowledge of the western United States, this “audiobook” is useless. Don’t waste 13 minutes listening to it.

I suspect the person who created this isn’t from Oregon. When an audiobook on Oregon begins by telling you that it borders Washington, the ocean, etc., you know you’re in for a lackluster experience.

It’s basically just a list of the most common Oregon facts with varying degrees of accuracy.

For example, I have lived in Oregon my entire life, visited every county and traveled on every scenic byway. I have never heard anyone refer to John McLoughlin as “the father of Oregon.” Most Oregonians probably don’t know who he is aside from knowing a few streets and landmarks that bear his name.

They literally spend about a minute just reading off demographic stats from 2010. The part where they describe the state seal is especially mind-numbing.

They mention Herbert Hoover as a notable Oregonian…one of our worst presidents often associated with the Great Depression…he lived here a few years as a teenager. They also mention a sci-fi writer from California, Ursula le Guin. Granted, she’s a great writer but hardly someone I’d put on the shortlist of notable Oregonians…same goes for Hoover.

At least they mentioned Matt Groening, although they mispronounce his name.

They give the land area for the size of Oregon, but don’t tell you the actual size with water included. Thankfully they include the size of our state (minus water) in square kilometers…

And I feel I should point out that technically, the Oregon meadowlark is the official state SONGbird. The other “state bird” (the official state raptor) is the Osprey.

Terrible download. If someone is making money off these, bravo—you found a lazy way of making a quick buck.
