Acerca de esta escucha

Four little words. That’s all it took. Just four words to turn Andi Vanzant’s world upside down. Until then, Andi thought her life was perfect: married to an adoring man, recently tenured at Northampton University, and a published author. But when her husband is killed by a drunk driver just blocks from their home, his death plunges Andi into a grief from which she cannot imagine ever surfacing. Her family and friends do their best to help her pick up the pieces, but nothing they do or say will ever bring back what Andi lost that night.

Andi’s widowed mother advocates stoicism, her best friend, Maggie, is frustrated that Andi is not trying harder to rally from her loss, and Andi’s therapist encourages her to heal unresolved issues. Despite their efforts, she is resistant to any and all advice. When an unexpected reunion renews an old friendship, Andi sees signs of hope that someday she can be happy again. She begins to take tentative steps toward starting over, daring to live a life different from the one she’d always envisioned.

One reviewer mentioned the Long Island accent. My response: WHAT Long Island accent?!? The narrator barely suggests a LI accent, tossing in the occasional Lawn Gisland for purposes of authenticity. At worst, this is is "LI Lite". And yes, educated NYers DO speak with accents - as educated ppl do worldwide. Now, to the content: personally, I find these characters too naive to be real, the 'coincidences' impossible and their persistent insecurities tiresome. Grief is a process. Yes, it (the trauma) can last a lifetime. However, if I'd been Andy I'd have gone to a licensed PsyD after 1 session with a New Age therapist.. but then (in all likelihood) no Italy.

Not as interesting as 'Faking It'

...but it shouldn't become one. The author does such a wonderful job of making you feel as if you are there. My only complaint is the three major women in Andi's life all have names beginning with "M". It made it confusing to remember who was whom.

I can easily see this as a film...

A great sequel to Faking It. I'm glad there was a follow-up as I didn't feel the Andi and David relationship was over. I liked seeing how they both have grown over the 6 years apart.

good sequel

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes....just an awesome story and it kinda hit home with me!

What does Cynthia Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Very good, enjoyed her.

Any additional comments?

Hope there is more to come!

Loved this story!!!

As a southerner it it incredibly difficult to listen to the awful accent and try to imagine an intelligent person. Thanks Jersey Shore. The chance encounters between the David/Devin and Andi happen to often to be plausible. Also not everyone Andi meets will want to improve their writing.. Really an escort and then the drunk driving kid!? Come on.

Horrible Long Island accent
