About this listen

At the end of the world, who will survive?

The year is 2061, and the planet is dying. Cataclysmic solar storms have forced leaders from around the world to finally put aside their differences and agree on one thing-to jump ship. The human race is headed to Mars.

Dr. Sophie Winston is hired by New Tech Corporation to test a biosphere deep within the heart of Cheyenne Mountain; a mission she believes will help prepare the company for the three-year flight to the red planet. But, just days into the assignment, things start to go wrong. When the blast doors hiss open, Winston's team finds a changed world outside. Humans are gone, vanished without a trace, and they aren't the only thing missing. The planet's water has disappeared, too.

As the team explores their surroundings, they find thousands of luminous blue orbs lining the streets. It isn't until they uncover what's inside that they realize the nightmare that lies ahead.

Can't wait for more

It is 2061 and solar flares have forced the government and scientists to find new ways to survive. Dr Sophie Winston signed on to help, she signs up to be part of a project to test a biosphere that will eventually lead to a position on Mars. But just a few days into the project things start to go wrong, and when they find just how wrong the nightmare begins.

This book is filled with action and suspense. The author could not have pick a more diverse group of characters to play out this story and they work so well together, I can not wait to see who else he can pull into this group and what they bring with them. Narrator Bronson Pinchot gives each and every character its own voice and characteristics, he is a wonder and makes you feel like you are right there in the story, these two, author and narrator, work really good together.

Great kick off for a GREAT series!

At this point, you go into Orbs knowing it's going to be a 4 part series. This was a great kick off and an original premise. I've listened to plenty of alien and apocalyptic fiction, and I've never heard anything like this before. The aliens have come, and they've come for our water. But they've come for ALL of it.

I loved this book and it deserves every piece of the rating I've given it. You don't get much of a resolution, but you do get a solid stopping point for the next leg. It's a series, that's what you should expect. Nicholas Sansbury Smith really knows how to build a bleak world, and Bronson Pinchot does a great job with the narration.

Outstanding!

Excellent combo sifi and horror. LOL...I actually had a nightmare about this book. I received the audible version and can recommend this whole series (even though I have not listen to the other books yet, I have no doubt that the follow on's are just as good). I will be reading/listening to everything N.S.Smith writes. Now for the obligatory: This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. And I thank N.S. for accepting me for this.

Awesome start to a series

Great set up to the series, lots of interesting questions raised that make me want to read the next installment right away. This is a scary and desolate world where hope is in short supply, but the characters fight to find a solution despite that. I can’t help but like the characters and hope they find a way to survive and win, but I honestly don’t see it as things stand. I’m anxiously awaiting what comes next. The narration just made the story even better.
