About this listen

I came to rescue my imprisoned brothers, but now I’m one.

Arriving in Thailand for my first black-op, Operation DFC, as part of an elite team ready to act on recent intel that over a thousand men and/or their remains are still behind enemy lines, Bangkok is our last stopping point before slipping into Vietnam and extracting as many American prisoners as possible.

For me, this is personal. From 1971 to 1973, I was a POW; and now, ten years later, I work for the CIA under the fake identity of John Sims, Field Expert for Crop World, an international firm run by the agency. While in my hotel room, the unthinkable happens. Bangkok may end up being my greatest challenge as my courage, patriotism, and honor are on the line, and I find myself in the toughest physical and mental battle of my life, wondering if Operation DFC will be my first, and last, covert mission.

This exciting story goes underground into the dark, special secret government unit.
The dangers, betrayal, suffering, Rafe puts himself in danger for his duty to the country ,
Going after the Cartel in Nicaragua, puts himself, family and members of his team in mortal danger., Theres a mole in the organization.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat.
Randy McCarten is a new narrator for me. He brings all the intensity, drama, in this exciting story. Very well done.

A Brutal Story

I've read quite a few books in the last few years, and I'm used to a formula of how books usually start out. They usually start out by giving you some background and info and some reason why you should like (or not like) a character. Operation DFC just sort of throws you right into the action. Now, that's totally fine in my book, but I didn't feel like I had a lot of opportunity to figure out who the main character was and what made him tick.

I don't know how to describe this book as anything but brutal. Taylor and Fontainne didn't hold back in any of the scenes, and as I mentioned above, he was thrown right into it, and it was relentless.

Set in the post-Vietnam era, this story was touching, emotional, and a not-so-gentle reminder of some of the horrors that these soldiers went through. And the entire story itself was brutal, as I already mentioned. In Operation DFC, they covered so many different emotions and feelings I was left sort of emotionally drained after reading this.

The narration by Randy McCarten was excellent. He was able to bring Sims alive and take the emotion that was already at a 10 to an 11.

devastating losses

This was more graphic than I expected or wanted. It is intense and compelling. Some people sell their souls for money; others give their souls to save others and some left for dead. Wolfman was a superhero, but he would never admit or agree with that. This was diabolical double cross and betrayals that made me ill and broke my heart. Kathy was less than understanding when given the truth and that sickened me. She was immature and selfish. Wolfman 's tenacity and strength to go on was miraculous and honorable. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

Loved it

I've read pretty much all of Ashley Fontainne, this is the first of Janelle Taylor. The combination of the 2 authors does not disappoint! Set in the Vietnam era, 'John', a former POW, has one goal in life. To bring his fellow POW's home and keep his best friend and the love of his life safe at the same time.
This takes one through a multitude of emotions and brings you out on the other side.
I listened to the audiobook version of this and let me say that Randy McCarten is amazing. He tells a hellava story (not just reading to the listener) and makes the reader BELIEVE he is each character he portrays.
I highly recommend!

Mind Blowing Thriller!

A former Vietnam POW is recruited for a black op to help recover other missing POWs. With a personal interest invested in this mission, John aka Wolfman discovers his CIA-sanctioned undercover op is not all it seems. His patriotism, honor, and sanity are at stake as he weaves his way through the lies and deceit. First, his mission is to recover, now it is to hunt down and destroy those responsible.

The authors, Janelle Taylor and Ashley Fontainne unfold a story in a unique manner. There is very little background to the story and characters in the beginning as they bring listeners immediately into the story where they discover the storyline and each character piece by piece. Their story exposes the ruthless and callous torture playing on the already emotional topic that each person can relate to either by experience or through family or knowledge. When the action begins, the authors do not stop until the very last word is spoken. This is definitely a story that remains with the listener long after the ending. The story flows smoothly with significant plot twists that are staggering and unexpected. As the listener that is what you do, but Taylor and Fontainne draw the listener into the point they can almost feel the severe harshness physically. I am impressed with the amount of research to accurately reflect the time period and events.

The narrator, Randy McCarten is equally skilled with unique voices, enhancing the story through vocal intonations that accurately reflect the emotional struggles and the physical/mental torture John and others endure throughout the book. He captures and projects the essence of each character and situation accurately and vividly. He spoke clearly and with the appropriate level of energy for the various situations.

Overall, this book is … well, intensely overwhelming with emotional content, action, life and death, and so much more. This is a definite must-hear audiobook!
