About this listen

They couldn't be more opposite, the Hollywood actor and the hometown girl, but all they need is a little convention magic to become the perfect ship in Cathy Yardley's One True Pairing.

Jake Reese needs a decoy girlfriend. Fast. The lead actor of the popular TV show Mystics is tired of losing his shirt to overeager fans. Literally. Which is why a chance meeting with gothabilly bookworm-slash-barista Hailey Frost seems almost too perfect to be true. Hailey is not impressed with his TV fame and is desperate to save her family's bookstore. It's a match made in Hollywood, but as the two pretend to date, fan fiction becomes reality. Can this OTP become canon?

Fun fandom fantasy

A lot of the book is charming and cute but one has to overlook a few too many WTF moments.

We have a famous hot guy and a not-famous hot gal with a great meet cute & chemistry pretending to date when they could actually…just date, which they kind of did. The author threw in a lot of weird events/singularities to ¿add drama? that I tried to overlook. I would have been happy with them just having a romance at the con. As it is the story is going along and then out of nowhere, the characters either do or don’t do something that they would/n’t do if they were sensible. Her job drama was also overly dramatic to not much purpose. The weird stalker plot was wholly unnecessary- it wasn’t significant enough to drive much plot or engage [this] reader emotionally. It could have been done more effectively of left out. Without knowing about future book plots, I assume the bodyguard only showed up to set up a future OTP. Which, fine, the series is fun, but also frustrating with the occasional moments of dumb. At least the dismissable drama made it a low angst read, even knowing that 2020 will crush their business like a bug.

Steam: Med-low. There M/F sexytimes on page and some actually steamy making out. I understand having various blocking interruptions to help delay escalation but I don’t understand why a modern woman who likes good sex would stop a guy from going downtown then put in all the effort that she just denied him. You can do both. It makes no sense. Then there’s some awkwardness around trying not to disrespect sex workers while still deliberating distancing the characters from any hint of sex work. Narration: Not bad but a little stumbly. Sammamish sounded like Saint Amish sometimes and Jiminy Cricket isn’t Jimmy. Otherwise the narrators are nice to listen to. They did a good job keeping the sound levels consistent when switching between dual pov narrators.

Love the book but

For the first time I think this was a miss titled work I think “fan con” would’ve been much more appropriate.
