About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

What would happen if you were cycling to the office and just kept on pedalling?

Needing a change, Mike Carter did just that. Following the Thames to the sea he embarked on an epic 5,000-mile ride around the entire British coastline—the equivalent of London to Calcutta.

He encountered drunken priests, drag queens and gnome sanctuaries. He met fellow travellers and people building for a different type of future. He also found a spirit of unbelievable kindness and generosity that convinced him that Britain is anything but broken. This is the inspiring and very funny tale of the five months Mike spent cycling the byways of the nation.

Amazing Epic Ride

Being a seventy year old rider, and having recently finished an cross continental ride across the USA, I was interested in finding out how other riders doing such epic rides feel about their journey.

Listening to the story made the memories of my trip even more vivid for me, so thank you for that.

Loved hearing every minute of your adventure Mike, and wish you more adventures like this.

Exemplifying Why I love Riding My Bicycle

Everything about this book explains why riding a bicycle is the best thing you could ever do for yourself. For your health, for your mind, for your outlook and for your heart.

The journey Mr. Carter has taken in this book had envy dripping from every pore on my body. What great fortune to take on throwing caution to the headwind and exploring his homeland and coming away with a new sense of being. That is what a bicycle ride can and will do for you.... especially one of this nature.

Bravo Mr. Carter and a fine job on the narration as well.

Take the trip with Mike, he's good company.

As a fellow enthusiast of travelling by bicycle and cycle camping I thoroughly enjoyed this very well written account of an epic and at times rather hilarious journey around coastal Britain. Mike is a thoughtful, humble and enthusiastic storyteller and I thoroughly enjoyed his company on the journey.
