About this listen

Sassy tomboy Ginger Atkinson would rather be captaining a deep-sea fishing boat than baking pies, yet she still wishes she had a man to bake for. Sure, the pretty redhead is happy running her late father's Turtle Island ferry business, but everyone in the world is finding love except her. Stuck on the wrong side of thirty, she's trying to accept singlehood by building a dream home - for one.

In high school, Carter Ridley loved to sneak off with his good friend Ginger to watch the sun rise over the ocean. But after graduation, his path took a different route. One that, unlike Ginger's, did get him the spouse and house of his dreams. At least, until a scandal shattered everything.

Running from his heartbreak, Carter returns to Turtle Island, where he discovers that Ginger is all grown up. His teenage friend has become the woman he's always wanted. But will Carter's pain scare him away from a chance at happiness? Or can he be the loving partner Ginger's been looking for?

Love this Series!

Any additional comments?

I love this series, Kim Law is one of my favorite authors. I was really looking forward to this installment but I was so disappointed. Not by the story, I loved the characters, but the narration was horrible , it just didn't work for this kind of book. I wish I'd read it instead of listening to it on an audiobook.

Brilliant!!!

I am SO in LOVE with this series and this author!!! I don't know what I'm going to do when I finish Kim Law's other books. I've read her Sugar Springs Books and the start to The Wilde's of Montana and now finished the 3rd book in this series. I've enjoyed each one SO VERY MUCH! I really wish there were hundreds more! I could read her work forever!

Great 3rd book in a series

Would you listen to On the Rocks again? Why?

Yes. I like the continuation of the friends through all 3 books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ginger, because she was always willing to keep trying for the future she wanted.

Have you listened to any of Natalie Ross’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to many of her books and am happy with the narration she does in all of them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I enjoy listening to trilogies, especially when it involves friends who stay bonded to each other through life's challenges.

This was my favorite of the series.

Totally loved Ginger and Carter's story. They had been best friends as children and had completely designed their future homes together. Could children's fantasy bloom into adult forever? Great character building and growth. Good narration.

Terrible book and narration..

DNF @ 56%, page 162.. This was a free read and listen so I'm glad I didn't spend money on either one.

I’m not sure about this book. At 52% I was wondering if anything was really going to happen. Carter came home to see about his pregnant sister and sees Ginger after a number of years, after being her best friend when they were little and all the way up to their teens. Now he’s a grumpy and angry man because he’s divorced and Ginger is trying to help him get over his feelings and try to be happy again.

What’s so ridiculous is Ginger trying so hard to find a husband. She’s like man crazy. She’ll ogle any man that comes near her or go out with him then be all depressed when he doesn’t ask her out again because she was seeing him as husband material. I saw nothing remotely interesting about Ginger and her man attitude.

One reviewer on Amazon said this book was “too risqué” but I’m not seeing it. Carter WROTE a sexy scene between him and Ginger but other than that there hasn’t even been a kiss or thought about anything yet, so I was assuming that the second part of the book is going to be all about desire, thoughts and sex. So, I was anxious to see about that.

OK, I won’t see about the sex because I’m done at 56% (page 162.) They kissed and the conversation after that kiss was so teenager-ish. These two are in their 30’s and talked like they were 16. He wanted more and she said no because she had another date in a few days and this could be the one and Carter told her to keep her clothes on. It was too much. I don’t care if they end up together or have sex. They’re too immature for me.

No idea about the sex but the F-bomb was used 14 times.

As to the narration: Natalie Ross is not even ok for me. Her men’s voices are deep but they’re not very good and she only has 2 emotions when she reads: romantic or sad, nothing in-between. She would never be one I would want to listen to again. Sorry

"Hot Men, Yes"

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, afraid not. The Caught in the Act series are my favorite from this author. This is the first book in this series I purchased and it is just not for me. The outline is good, but it was a bit flat for me that I had to use 1.5x speed instead of just the new great 1.25x speed. The sexy and humorous parts were great, but it needed a bit better editing.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I have a number of Natalie Ross and Angela Dawe reads to be listened to as they always do a good job on the male hero's voice.

Have you listened to any of Natalie Ross’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She does a great job on this one especially when the author puts in humorous lines e.g. when our heroine first meets the construction crew.

Do you think On the Rocks needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I like strong hero's and this story of our hero just didn't do it for me.

Any additional comments?

I hope author and Audible have Bennett's story from Caught in the Act series. These have romance as well as a little mystery.

Dull

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

There were no ups and down in this very low keyed romance. Not a bit of angst. No hotness. Just lukewarm at best. I regret getting it.
