About this listen
Most people run from disasters, but for people like Jake, it's your job to get to one as fast as you can. As a prepper he does not want to take the risk; as an emergency manager it's his duty. And this time he is not so sure he wants to perform that duty, whether it's his job or not.
A major global pandemic is going on and a major hurricane has just hit the Gulf Coast. To make matters worse, the government is forcing the evacuees back to the storm-stricken cities or placing them in isolation and quarantine. Jake's chances of helping others or becoming a casualty himself have just taken a turn for the worse as the U.S. declares martial law for a storm-ravaged coast.
Follow this adventure story of bad government policy and impending apocalypse. How could this post-apocalyptic tale of "driving to a disaster" get any worse? After a mega hurricane and a major pandemic threatens the Gulf States, it looks like events will shut humanity down in the good old U.S.A.. The author adds to the impending sense of doom when martial law is imposed and society collapses because of economic and food riots. And the hero is not home yet as an oil spill takes place.
This book paints a foreboding fictional picture of a possible and all-too-likely true scenario: a "what if" Armageddon. What do we do? How do we prepare? Stock more Preps, buy more ammo? Maybe we don't prepare and we just die.

Three terrorist attacks are launched from freighters against the United States. Only one fully succeeds, but in the blink of an eye all of the country west of the Rocky Mountains is transformed into the technological equivalent of the 18th century - no electricity, no computers, no electronics of anykind, or any of the amenities of modern life that depend on them. This is the story of ordinary and extraordinary people, high and low, who struggle to survive in a mortally wounded nation, as America's enemies within and without circle for the kill.

Story
Robert Egan could have been a roofing contractor, like his father. Instead, he opened a barbecue restaurant. His interest in the search for Vietnam-era POWs led to an introduction to North Korean officials desperate to improve relations with the United States. So Egan turned his restaurant into Camp David, with pork ribs.

Story
America is in the thrall of a full-scale socioeconomic breakdown. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation destroys the value of the dollar, and the population, unprepared for hardship, panics. Practically overnight, the high technology infrastructure and chains of supply collapse and wholesale rioting and looting grip every city. Law enforcement, transportation, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies are all in the past now, as the country staggers beneath its own weight.

Story
On January 12, 2010, the deadliest earthquake in the history of the Western Hemisphere struck the nation least prepared to handle one. Jonathan M. Katz, the only full-time American news correspondent in Haiti, was inside his house when it buckled along with hundreds of thousands of others. In this visceral first-hand account, Katz takes readers inside the terror of that day, the devastation visited on ordinary Haitians, and through the monumental--yet misbegotten--rescue effort that followed.

Story
People love easily. Look at most of your relatives or coworkers. How lovable are they? Really? Yet most have mates and children. The vast majority are still invited to family gatherings and their relatives will speak to them. Many have pets to which they are devoted. Some even call them their fur-babies. Is your dog or cat or parakeet property or family? Not in law but in your heart? Can a pet really love you back? Or is it a different affection? Are you not kind to those who feed and shelter you? But what if your dog could talk back? Would your cat speak to you kindly?

A Emergency Managers Take
This is a fun story that uses humor and prepper wisdom to examine a truly horrifying event. I like how the author uses professional insights of disaster response to add to the storyline.
