A focus on what is important in a world of fluff

As a father of two boys under 10, I am always on the look-out for stories that focus on what is important in life. Old Yeller is a terrific coming of age story which is a must read for all boys younger than 14. Travis represents a boy of yesteryear who would have been a common commodity of the time, but today, extremely under represented. The character Travis represents a boy with strong work ethic, principles, loyalty, love of family, personal responsibility & accountablitiy, and ultimately love of a dog. Travis' relationship with Yeller goes beyond a simple relationship with a dog who helps the family survive during precarious times and precarious circumstances. I found myself pausing during certain intervals of the book to explain to my boys some of the deeper meaning of many of the decisions made by Travis. My sons looked forward to the daily commute and we listened to this book within one week.

Loved this old favorite. Narrator did a great job!

Really wonderful. Helped get my kids through the stomach flu. Really wish the same narrator would do Savage Sam.

Childhood classic enjoyed by an adult

A couple of years ago we stopped in Mason, TX to see the Old Yeller statue and Fred Gipson exhibit at the library in his hometown. I realized I had never read the book, so decided the rectify that by listening to it on Audible. So glad I did.

I Loved My Dog

This was a down home kind of book. Country living. Meant for children and adults. Happy with sad moments.
