About this listen

How well do you know the people you love?

Best friends Noah Sadler and Abdi Mahad have always been inseparable. But when Noah is found floating unconscious in Bristol's Feeder Canal, Abdi can't - or won't - tell anyone what happened.

Just back from a mandatory leave following his last case, Detective Jim Clemo is now assigned to look into this unfortunate accident. But tragedy strikes, and what looked like the simple case of a prank gone wrong soon ignites into a public battle. Noah is British. Abdi is a Somali refugee. And social tensions have been rising rapidly in Bristol. Against this background of fear and fury, two families fight for their sons and for the truth. Neither of them knows how far they will have to go, what demons they will have to face, what pain they will have to suffer.

Because the truth hurts.

Great story development

Like the characters as well. The story is like getting puzzle pieces at random out of the box. Not sure how they fit together until the end. But they are related enough that you know they are going to fit sometime.

A Mile Away...

Could see the resolution to the mystery from the earliest chapters. Not a very mysterious mystery. Slow and predictable. Decent narration but had issues with incorrect pronunciation too many times.

Wow!

A well written mystery, with characters interesting and complex. Background stories of both main characters add depth to this excellent book. I fully enjoyed this book.

Actual tears

I liked the complexity of different backgrounds, being a main character of this book. I’m writing a review because I cried actual tears in the last chapter, which I don’t think I’ve ever done. Highly recommended.

Not predictable with believable characters

I love British mysteries...esp on audiobook. But I get REALLY FRUSTRATED at predictable outcomes & authors who rely on characters’ illogical actions to make the plot line work. NOT THE CASE WITH THIS ONE! Further, the author (& the presenter) left the ethnicity of the main detective a bit ambiguous...which I liked. Good story, characters & plot.
