About this listen

For years, writers and filmmakers have speculated about the possibility of the Earth being invaded by aliens from another planet. But what if the aliens have been watching us, infiltrating us via human collaborators, or even surgically altering themselves to look human?

Occupied Earth is a groundbreaking anthology that explores the idea of what the world would look like years after its conquest. Twenty years after a successful invasion by the Makh-Ra, human beings still exist, only they have become subservient to a new race of occupiers who now govern the devastated planet. But, as much at things continue with some sense of normalcy, something has happened in the Mahk-Ra's empire. Earth, once considered a strategic beachhead of major importance to the empire, has been downgraded in its value. Things are starting to degrade. Our planet is the last place any self-respecting Mahk-Ra officer wants to be assigned. Yet, despite everything, life continues. Occupied Earth brings us face to face with annihilation - and shows how we can pull ourselves back from the brink.

Critic reviews

"Alien occupation has never been so dark and sexy. Occupied Earth is The Fifth Wave meets Robopocalypse, in the best way possible." (Michelle Gagnon, author of No Escape)

The narrator is terrible

What would have made Occupied Earth better?

I love audiobooks and 99 times out of 100, the narrator is terrific. But I am about a third the way through the second story and I have to say that the male narrator makes my teeth ache. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard. Listening to this guy (Michael Hinton I guess) narrate an book is like listening to a high schooler trying ever so hard to earn an A with C- capabilities. His cadence is terrible. He tries to switch accents (British)...and it's cringe-inducing. But most aggravating is his inability to pronounce the letter "T" when it is in a word ("better" is pronounced "be'er" or "but if" is pronounced "bu'if". It just completely ruins the story. He does it over and over and over. This is the first time I have reviewed an audiobook truth be told. I am usually very happy and almost always proceed to the next great listen. BUT I HAD TO WARN YOU. Steer clear of this narrator.

Has Occupied Earth turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. Just the male narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of Elise Arsenault and Michael Hinton ’s performances?

Not Hinton..or should I say Hi'on.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No idea...the narrator kills the story for me.

Any additional comments?

Do not have Hinton narrate any more Audible books.

Really tried hard to like it.

I kept listening to the end and it just never got any better. Being aliens didnt have a lot to do with some of the stories, could of been any race. Disappointing read.
I had to read it at 1.5 speed just to get through it.
