Acerca de esta escucha

Two string players fight their attraction for each other as they compete for center stage in this spicy and emotional romance from USA Today bestselling author Julie Soto.

When professional—and self-taught—violinist Gwen Jackson plays, she disappears into the peaks and valleys of each song, a quiet passion that never quite explodes into pure emotion. Xander Thorne is the exact opposite. A cellist and a rock star, he’s all about big emotion, but not even his six-foot-four frame can contain his skill, his genius...and an attitude that borders on jerkitude.

Not only did it take Xander a year to notice that he and Gwen both play in the Manhattan Pops, but he also always seems to have the perfect cutting criticism about her technique. When Gwen is offered the role of first chair of the orchestra, something Xander has secretly coveted for years, their existing hostility goes up a notch. Yet, despite her best efforts, Gwen can’t ignore the sizzling chemistry between them.

Forced to work more closely with each other, they can’t help exploring their attraction. As they begin to compose and play songs together, it’s clear that their powerful connection could make for a performance that would blow everyone’s minds. Suddenly, they’re box office dynamite, and the fragile romance growing between them is in danger of being crushed beneath a publicity stunt.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Like the best of symphonies, Julie Soto’s book soars. (And I’ll never look at a cello quite the same way…)”—Jodi Picoult, #1 NYT bestselling author

Beautiful Writing

Beautifully written, love the way the music developed the love story. Narration matched the characters, well done.

God I love this book, this audio, just everything.

This book is just so good. I’m reminded of that every time I read or listen to it. The tension is written SO WELL. I’m not sure if it’s because I grew up playing music, but the scenes where they communicate through music, omg. I die. Those scenes make my heart absolutely THROB.

My only wish is that I wish I had more of Alex’s POV, but it’s really okay that we don’t. His chapters are really impactful.

I also just have to say, the way anxiety is written in this book is really heart wrenching.. coming from someone who suffers from extreme anxiety. I get so frustrated at certain parts, but then totally relate to them at the same time. It felt so real in that way.

I just adore this book. I come back to it kind of often because I love the way the romance is written. Highly recommend.

Genius

This story is pure genius. The way Julie Soto weaves in such emotion with music you can almost hear is truly inspiring. The feelings you experience as you listen to her descriptions of the music and every interaction between Alex and Gwen are tangible. This story played out like a movie in my head with not a hole to be found. I’m not a fan of listening to stories read in third person past, but still… I loved it. Looking forward to more from Julie Soto.

Julie Soto strikes again!

After falling in love with Soto’s writing style in Forget me Not, I've been anxiously awaiting another book and it did not disappoint!! I was immersed on the story from the beginning and as an artist and former orchestra kid, the passion for music shown by these characters made my heart sing. Soto captured the way music can show emotion and encourage deep connection between people, and the theme of it throughout the book contributed to capturing Alex and Gwen’s relationship in a way it couldn’t without it. I adore the characters, the cameos of Ama and Elliot, and the depiction of how the music industry is complex and the importance of copyright. The friendships depicted in the book warmed my heart and made me laugh. I enjoyed the display of healthy and playful relationships and chosen families. Thank you for another incredible book I’ll be rereading over and over! Can’t wait for the next one :)

A cute story!

book review📖: not another love song by julie soto

Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice rating: 🌶️🌶️.5

• Summary:
Gwen Jackson, a young musical prodigy and violinist for the Manhattan Pops orchestra, just wants stability and to make those around her proud. When Gwen ends up performing at a wedding as a side gig, her fellow Pops musician, Xander Thorne, has no idea who she is, despite having worked together for a year. As Xander becomes more fascinated by Gwen’s talent, and Gwen is presented with an opportunity of a lifetime at the Pops, the two go from butting heads to making beautiful music together.

• My thoughts:
The first half of this book was 5⭐️ read for me! I was BUZZING. The perfectly built up tension, the beautiful description of the music, the looks of desire that required no words, the cello scene that CHANGED ME🔥 The first half had me vibrating with the exhilaration of experiencing an amazing book the first time. Thennnnn the second half hit, and truthfully things stalled for me. I found myself getting bored with Gwen’s lack of depth/personality, and questioning if the MMC’s Alex vs Xander persona dichotomy was a bit over the top. Towards the end of the book, I felt like both MCs were lacking depth, and not having the deeper conversations I kept expecting them to have.

Overall, this book had me going from absolutely ENTHRALLED, to a little bored, to frustrated by the main character driven conflict/resolution of the plot. Forget Me Not was one of my favorite books of last year, so I had extremely high hopes for this read, and I’m rounding up on this rating given how much I enjoyed the first half, despite feeling lack luster about the second!
