Iraq War veterans Kelton Jager and Azrael attempt to integrate back into American society pursuing a job at a new federal facility on a tip from a local veterinarian. Best of all, numerous ex-Military Working Dogs are being shipped in at the local airport, indicating his skills as a dog handler might be in demand. Although Kelton’s application fails to bring him an employment opportunity, his observations raise questions. The facility is small, without green space. There are no security patrols using K-9’s behind the barbed wire topped fences. Workers inside aren’t mixing with the town folks. Bearton’s earthy mayor doesn’t want to disrupt the money it brings to the town’s depressed economy, even rolling out the red carpet for a member of the United States House of Representatives whom deems the town important enough for a visit.
