Familiar roads. Familiar Places. It's easy to get stale riding the same old routes. Sometimes it hardly seems worthwhile to pull on all that motorcycle gear, start the engine and head out. Why bother? It is easy to tire of the road. Cold weather and occasional roadside troubles are all part of the pleasures of riding. Don't let the little things get you down. Sometimes all it takes to overcome the feeling that you've ridden all those roads too many times is a slight change in perspective and attitude.
This book is a grab-bag of motorcycle tales and travels - traversing northern Ontario forest roads on a $750 plastic ugly duckling, exploring Nova Scotia by road couch, ADV travel by ancient Guzzi, dipping into urban Ontario to visit a couple of enormous hounds - Nick takes us on diverse journeys on a variety of different bikes while avoiding the ennui which occasionally creeps into our motorcycling life.

His first big motorbikes. Although he enjoyed them at the time, he did not treat them well—a source of regret for over 50 years. His affection for those old, single-cylinder sloggers never left, and when the opportunity arose to acquire one later in life, he jumped at it.

During the spring of 2020, the whole world was hiding from the Covid-19 virus. In Ontario, we did not experience the complete lockdowns which were enacted in parts of Europe, where people were required to stay in their homes with quarantines rigorously enforced by the police, so it was still possible to get out riding, as long as one was sensible and took appropriate precautions.

My well-travelled 1972 Moto Guzzi Eldorado turned 50 in 2022, shortly after I turned 70. With more than 100,000 miles under her wheels, the old Eldorado has traversed Labrador, visited the Arctic Circle in the Yukon, and explored most of the isolated roads in northern Ontario and northern Quebec. Along the way there have been one or two roadside mishaps—some amusing, some annoying—but she has always managed to get me home. How would she fare on another epic journey? Somehow, an early season ride to photograph some of Quebec's covered bridges turned into a marathon.

Despite a lifetime of healthy outdoor activity and a diet no worse (or better, for that matter) than the next man’s, in 2017, at the age of 66, Nick found himself under the knife for triple bypass surgery. Would this be the end to hiking adventures and long motorcycle trips to remote parts? Not a chance! Recovery from open heart surgery is a long, slow process. But with plenty of help, some dedication, lots of careful walking, and heaps of good luck, it is possible to return to a fully active life.

Another fine title by Mr. Adams
I'm a huge fan of Nick Adams. I love his books and his narration is always premier. His adventures into the known and unknown on his old bikes and new-to-him bikes makes these adventures even more enjoyable. Would you take a 50-year-old bike for a lengthy ride down a dirt road? Nick will. And that's where the fun begins.
Nick has got this book thing down pat. He knows what he is doing and his writing and narration skills only prove that point. This book, as well as his others, are well worth your time.
Good job Nick.
