About this listen

Edgar Award Nominee for Best First Novel

Named a New York Times Best Thriller of 2021

"I devoured this riveting book through a day of travel...My desire to rush to the end clashed with my desire to savor every word. Who would be the last psychopath standing?” (New York Times Book Review)

"Fresh, fast-paced and fiendishly clever! If you love watching true crime and wonder about the psychopaths among us, this is the book for you!" (Lisa Gardner, #1 New York Times best-selling author)

You should never trust a psychopath. But what if you had no choice?

It would be easy to underestimate Chloe Sevre…. She’s a freshman honor student, a legging-wearing hot girl next door, who also happens to be a psychopath. She spends her time on yogalates, frat parties, and plotting to kill Will Bachman, a childhood friend who grievously wronged her.

Chloe is one of seven students at her DC-based college who are part of an unusual clinical study of psychopaths - students like herself who lack empathy and can’t comprehend emotions like fear or guilt. The study, led by a renowned psychologist, requires them to wear smart watches that track their moods and movements.

When one of the students in the study is found murdered in the psychology building, a dangerous game of cat and mouse begins, and Chloe goes from hunter to prey. As she races to identify the killer and put her own plan for revenge into action, she’ll be forced to decide if she can trust any of her fellow psychopaths - and everybody knows you should never trust a psychopath.

There were parts I really liked and parts that I didn’t. I don’t feel that I wasted my time listening to it, but it’s definitely not one I would revisit. Well written. I just couldn’t connect with the main character.

Mixed feelings

Best thriller I’ve read in a while. Couldn’t wait to get to the end to figure out who it was! Definitely recommend!

This was such a great book, nope never saw that coming. Listened straight through from beginning till the end. Normally I'd be reading the news while my books are on. But not today this book kept my attention and was so good I actually just listened to it. It was that good. I'm not a spoiler so read the jacket it tells enough to get the ideal of the book. I'll definitely be looking for more books by this author. This isn't my typical book type but it was just that good. And I don't leave written reviews unless the book is worth my time to do so.

OH MY GOD SO SO GREAT REALLY!!!

Highly recommend this fun little read for its well developed characters and entertaining plot! I thought it would be tough to read a book where the main character was a psychopath but it wasn’t at all.

Solid story, highly entertaining

The premise of this book is interesting; psychopaths are given full scholarships to a college but they have to participate in a study and have counseling sessions. The mystery comes in when people in the psychology department begin to be killed. A few of these psychopaths try to figure out who is doing the murders. My "but" comes in because the main characters are psychopaths and so hard to like. The book is clever with several twists and turns. I only wish I had liked the characters and wanted to get to know them and care about them.

interesting, but

The ending was awesome, but it took way too long to get there. Fun read, not the best story
