About this listen

Expect the unexpected in this gritty, tense mystery from New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton.

After multiple women go missing, Agent Melina Shepard of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation makes the impulsive decision to go undercover as a prostitute. While working the street, she narrowly avoids becoming a serial killer’s latest victim; as much as it pains her to admit, she needs backup.

Enter lone wolf FBI agent Jerrod Ramsey. Stonewalled by a lack of leads, he and Melina investigate a scene where a little girl has been found abandoned in a crashed vehicle. They open the trunk to reveal a horror show and quickly realize they’re dealing with two serial killers with very different MOs. The whole situation brings back memories for Melina - why does this particular case feel so connected to her painful past?

Before time runs out, Melina must catch not one but two serial killers, both ready to claim another victim - and both with their sights set on her.

I enjoyed the story but I have listened to the narrator perform all the October Daye books and I associated each male voice to one of the fantasy characters. For me another narrator would have been less distracting.

I normally enjoy Ms. Burton's books, but this one, I didn't enjoy as much. The story line itself was great, but the constant going back and forth between two serial killers' point of view was very confusing and hard to keep up with. The narration wasn't the best either. The narrator would pause in the middle of a sentence for a second or two which was very annoying.

A little too much to keep up with.

Narrator was brutal. Her male voices made for a tough read - especially the minor characters.

Almost could not finish!!

I wish I could have given zero stars for this narrator. I usually preorder all of Mary Burton's books but I'll be careful not to buy one with this woman narrating again. It's a shame because the book is a great one for those fans of Mrs Burton's. I'd suggest skipping the audio version of this one.

Zero for this narrator!

Great story, twisted plot with plenty of action. Some emotional parts. The narrator did a spectacular job with each of these characters. It was a wonderful experience all around. I recommend this book.

Awesome

The story was excellent but I had to stop listening and finish reading on Kindle. The timing made me think it was dubbed and not well.

terrible narration

I like the story but the male voices I didn’t like they were terrible .

Good book

Yikes. The narration was so distracting, I found it hard to really focus on and lose myself in the story. And the story? I'm not recommending that, either.

Just Okay

I went in this book with a preconceived notion that it would be just like the many other writers stories that I have already read. I must admit that I was very wrong on many levels. This story caught me by surprise and carried me start to finish into and out of a lot of untouched regions. I was delightfully happy and entranced from one line to the next. Enjoy!!!

Touching

The storyline can draw you in a times, but because multiple storylines play out at one time the writer did not transition well. one minute you are following one story and it drastically jumps to the other story. I had to rewind several times to make sure I caught the transition because I got confused. Overall it was a solid A-/B+ the mystery novels.

A little hard to follow
