Story

Story
Audiokniha renomovaného psychologa Jordana B. Petersona destiluje poznání o lidském charakteru a osudu do dvanácti pravidel, vyrůstajících z těch nejtradičnějších hodnot: zodpovědnosti za vlastní život i svět kolem sebe, víry v lidské společenství a vztah k nadosobním hodnotám.

Story
Existují i pohádky, ve kterých se nevyskytují pohádkové obludy, kde nevítězí mocné kouzlo či hrubá síla, ale navrch má rozum, moudrost a vtip. Hrdiny chytrých pohádek bývají lidé zdánlivě obyčejní, kteří se v životních zkouškách téměř vždy osvědčí jako lidé naopak neobyčejní, moudří a stateční. Posilují naše sebevědomí a připomínají nám, že k vítězství nad lží a nelidskostí nepotřebujeme čaromocný meč ani pohádkového dědečka, stačí mít kuráž, bystrý rozum a dobré srdce.

Story
A young woman is in love with a successful surgeon, a man torn between his love for her and his incorrigible womanizing. His mistress, a free-spirited artist, lives her life as a series of betrayals—while her other lover, earnest, faithful, and good, stands to lose everything because of his noble qualities. In a world where lives are shaped by irrevocable choices and fortuitous events, and everything occurs but once, existence seems to lose its substance, its weight. Hence we feel “the unbearable lightness of being."

All too often, this brilliant novel of thwarted love and revenge miscarried has been read for its political implications. Now, a quarter century after The Joke was first published and several years after the collapse of the Soviet-imposed Czechoslovak regime, it becomes easier to put such implications into perspective in favor of valuing the book (and all Kundera 's work) as what it truly is: great, stirring literature that sheds new light on the eternal themes of human existence.

Story
“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.
