Publisher's summary

From New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Maberry, NecroTek is a gripping sci-fi thriller full of ghosts, gods, and a battle for the soul of humanity.

Neither cosmic philosopher Lars Soren, hotshot pilot Bianca Petrescu, nor the high priestess Jessica McHugh—Lady Death herself—can say quite where in the galaxy they are. But after an experiment gone horribly wrong, one thing is clear: Asphodel Station isn’t in orbit around Jupiter any longer. Worse, the monsters that live out here—ancient eldritch beings thought only to exist in stories and nightmares—have now been alerted to Earth’s existence.

Their army of Shoggoths is coming for us next.

Humanity’s only hope for survival lies on the surface of the alien world of Shadderal, where a ghost named Lost, the last of an ancient race, still haunts the vast plains of the Field of Dead Birds. But hope has a cost. Lost tells Soren about ancient derelict spacecraft awaiting on Shadderal, shapeshifting machines that blend ultra-advanced technology with the dark powers of necromancy. These ships might just be nimble enough to defend mankind against the coming invasion.

But there’s a catch: they can only be piloted by the dead.

As human starfighters fall in battle, their spirits can be called back from death to pilot these ghost ships of a fallen race. But will this new necromantic technology—NecroTek—allow humanity to stand against the vast armies of the Shoggoths? And even if it can, is the war to save the human race worth the cost of its pilots’ immortal souls?

pretty good start.

overall vary interesting scfi story. i don't like how quickly the humans use necromancy to fight. that is dark magic in reality. no one seems to be against it. just we have to do what we have to do. just because you can do something don't mean you do it. the aliens who used the necrotech are all dead and gone but one. souls gone. means they used it and failed. maybe the use of necromancy was what caused them to lose and erased from existence. also don't like the whole military ra ra stuff. the way the scientist was treated by the captain. attacked by a nut. because of circumstances was appaling to me. just gloss over the abuse. threaten his life when what had happened wasn't really his fault. they don't know exactly what caused them to end up far from home. could of been sabotage or just a accident. i do like the AI in this the most though. still a good story just certain aspects I didn't care for.

Awesome

Hold on tight, it's a wild ride. This is one of those books that you don't want to end. The match of author and narrator could not be better.

Outstanding writing and character development makes this an amazing story!

Scientists meddling in things they shouldn’t starts this amazingly fast paced science fiction phenomenon! You’re going to connect to the amazing characters and stay rooted to the edge of your seat in this amazing thriller. I was even shouting out loud at points in the story.
Ray Porter is the KING OF NARRATION and presents this story in a way that honors its creativity while adding that something only Ray Porter can pull off!

had some seriously creepy parts

the beginning had some very creepy and scary parts. did the unseen horror and psychological tension associated with Lovecraftian horror. after that becomes more of an action story. lost its creepy/scary/tension filled vibes but still a good start to what has the potential to be a great lovecraftian horror/sci-fi.

Jonathan Mayberry’s mind

The author’s mind never ceases to amaze me and this book is no different. The pairing of author and narrator is beyond any other. Don’t think just buy and enjoy

Great first book in a series yet to come

This story lends itself to a long series of books. Looking forward to reading/listening to all of them. Great introduction of characters and the beginnings of many more.
