About this listen

Rigged financial markets and hopeless under-regulation on Wall Street are not new problems. In this book, Susanne Trimbath gives a sobering account of naked short-selling, the failure to settle, and her efforts over decades trying to get this fixed.

Twenty-five years ago, Trimbath was working “backstage at Wall Street” when a group of corporate trust specialists told her about a problem in shareholder voting rights. When she went to senior management at Depository Trust Company (DTC), then and still the largest securities depository in the world, they brushed it off, saying, “You can’t balance the world”. Ten years later, a lawyer from Texas would tell her that the same problem was about to blow up the financial markets: Wall Street brokers are using short sales and failures to deliver to grab the assets of American entrepreneurs.

This is a cautionary tale. What started as a regulatory failure turned into a regulatory crisis. Shareholder democracy is in shambles. The institutions that were established to correct a problem of trade settlement failures have instead exacerbated the problem. Global financial markets may not survive what comes next.

Depth of Knowledge made easy to grasp

Explains the growing sense of unease and distrust I've been feeling regarding our investment portfolio. Right in line with "The Great Taking" by Webb.
Getting the heck out of the stock & bond markets seems the best answer as it appears the average invester has no way to invest there safely. Like so many longstanding institutions corruption runs too deep in the financial sector to even know where to start in attempting to repair it. Sad state.

If you participate in the stock market, listen to this book!

It may come as a surprise to you that the shares you “own” of your favorite company are not actually yours. Direct register (DRS) your shares to ensure that YOURS is the name in which they are registered. DRS is the way, you deserve honest representation in your financial affairs!

DRS

Thank you so much, Dr Trimbath, for your dedication to exposing this great injustice. I hope your name is in history books one day. I've been learning more about market structure since the initial Gamestop run-up in January 2021, but I had no idea just how bad things are.

DRS'ing your shares is the only way to make sure
you're not holding the phantom share bag.

good book, bad recording

The end of chapter 10 cuts off early. Other than that this was an excellent story that need more attention in the public eye.
