There is so much worry in her blue eyes. Her phone pings with constant messages and a small stain marks her crisp shirt. Breakfast with her two little girls before heading out to this high-flying job every morning can’t be easy. Ava needs me, I think. More than anything.

If you’d told me four months ago that I’d be lying on damp grass, clutching a bullet wound to the stomach, while next to me the love of my life lies dead from a bullet wound to the head, I’m not sure I would have believed you. If you’d told me I’d be surrounded by three other dead bodies, I definitely wouldn’t have believed you. And if you’d said it was all because of an argument over a metre of land, I would have thought you’d lost your mind. I might have even laughed.

Another great one!
Diane Saxon does it again! Another page-turner that you can’t help listening to “just one more chapter”. You get drawn into each character’s life and the events that shape them. No spoilers here, but hearing the story from the past and as it unfolds in the present weaves the story together perfectly! A great read!

My Mother’s Lies is an interesting psychological thriller. The book is told from 2 points of view, mother and daughter and 2 timelines. I found the timeline going back into the mother’s past to be the more engaging and interesting of the two.
At time I found the story to move a bit slowly. Especially in the beginning in the daughter's timeline. However, the story did get to a point where both perspectives converged and the outcome was satisfying.
Part of the story felt like filler and didn’t feel needed, it made the book feel longer than it needed to be. There were a few story lines that were tangentially related but not fully resolved by the end. They didn't change the outcome of the story but so much time was spent on them that having that cleared up would have enhanced the story, for me.
Overall, if you are a lover of thrillers, you should definitely give My Mother's Lies a try.
