About this listen

Ninety-five-year-old Lottie Barnes now lives in a care facility in her native Iowa. Critic reviews

"Every once in a while, you come across a book that says things you've always felt but haven't been able to put into words. Eric's stunning, meaningful work called My Last Name is such a book for me. After finishing it, I sat and wept at the realization that I am less alone in my secret sorrows, and more deeply understood than I had once thought. If you need a fresh reminder that you are seen, known, loved, and kept, don't let this book pass you by." (Scott Sauls, author of A Gentle Answer)

"[A] vivid and genuinely moving story." (Bret Lott, National Council on the Arts appointee, New York Times best-selling author, Oprah's Book Club selection)

“This novella might be the most psychologically honest, narratively engaging, and spiritually beautiful thing I have read this year.” (Russell Moore, author of The Courage to Stand)

I loved every minute of this too brief book. Such a beautiful story. The narrator was really good.

I listened to this breathtakingly beautifully written story just after visiting my elderly grandmother. Just a lovely story giving us a glimpse into what the mind of a woman at the end of life. I only wish the story would have kept going and going. So sweet and inspiring.

Absolutely beautiful story!

This story is heartbreaking yet beautiful in it's brevity but also in the way it is written, seamlessly going from forgotten memories to the sad present to the bright future.

Fadra did a beautiful job. Her voice was perfect for this role. I was struck by how she was able to show Lottie's forgetfulness and the ease with which she went from memory to memory.

Fives stars for sure!
