At forty years old, she has an enviable life: a successful career, stunning looks, a beautiful house in the suburbs, two healthy children, and most importantly, an ideal husband, whose wealthy background allows her to transcend her own social class. After fifteen years together, she is still besotted with him. But she’s never quite sure that her passion is reciprocated.

Determined to keep their relationship perfect, she meticulously prepares for every encounter they have, always taking care to make her actions seem effortless. She watches him attentively, testing him to make sure that he still loves her just as much as he did when they first met.

Until one day she realizes she may have gone too far . . .

Loved the story. Kept me so entertained. Definitely a must read. Mind bending to its fullest.

The ending! This novel was a curious and captivating read. I found myself questioning her sanity and then somehow understanding her logic which is only the result of the impeccable writing

Questioning of the main character’s sanity

I was excited to add this to my library as I saw this rec on TikTok and had yet to be mislead. Well, there’s a first time for everything. A story of an anxious wife with an unhealthy co dependency. Her logic was chaotic and insufferable. I listened to see if there was a plot twist or something interesting towards the end to award listening through. *Spoiler Alert* All to find out in the end that the husband is just as toxic. I love the narrator but was left unsatisfied and annoyed.

it took a while to hook me, but I kept listening (and changed the speed to x1.20) and then I was obsessed. I probably would have preferred to read it instead of listening for this reason. I kept trying to guess what her deal was and was never right. do not skip the epilogue.

The narrator was brilliant for this book! Overall I enjoyed, but the pace and impact was lacking. The ending made is *almost* worth the time invested.

Lacking...

I absolutely love the style of storytelling. A deep dive into an anxious-avoidant attachment style’s mind. I absolutely devoured this book and it devoured me. I couldn’t wait for my commute every day just to find out what was going to happen. This has become one of my very favorite novels ever. The simplicity of the storyline highlights the protagonist’s constant internal battle. I laughed out loud at several parts because of how relatable she is.
Fabulous twist at the end.

Relatable protagonist

The whole book I was torn between feeling bad for the main character and being so annoyed by her. But I loved the plot twist and the way it’s written. You don’t know if you should be jealous of their relationship or terrified that people like this exists

Beautifully written

Very clever idea for a storyline. As a wife, I think we could all identify with elements of the book. She was a bit neurotic and selfish. I think the ending was completely unexpected.
