About this listen

Jack's mother is a storyteller, a game-player. On an impulsive trip out to the family lake house, she spins a macabre tale for Jack and his father - a tale that, as the weekend progresses, Jack finds more and more difficult to untangle from his family's real life.Listen to more stories from 20th Century Ghosts, or download the complete collection.©2005, 2007 Joe Hill (P)2007 HarperCollins Publishers Anthologies Anthologies & Short Stories Fiction Horror Scary Short Story

Critic reviews

"Most of the stories display the unself-conscious dash that made Hill's novel an intelligent pleasure....Not just for ghost addicts." ( Kirkus Reviews)

Interesting , haunting and original. Like a dreamscape. I wanted more, but felt if I would've gotten it, it wouldn't have been as perfect at creating the abstract.

Very good!

I found this story hard to comprehend in one listen while walking. I didnt give it a second chance. It is a very strange tale about a boy who discovers the "truth" about his parents...with all sorts of creepy stops along the way. Lucky him. If you have the time and interest to keep track of what is going on in this story, you might find it more enlightening and enjoyable.
