About this listen

"A heartfelt and exciting debut...a wise and honest story of how it feels to be a young woman in search of yourself." (Taylor Jenkins Reid, New York Times best-selling author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Malibu Rising)

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill meets Younger in a heartfelt debut following a young woman who discovers she'll have to ditch the "dream job" and write her own story to find her happy ending.

Meet Nora Hughes - the overworked, underpaid, last bookish assistant standing. At least for now.

When Nora landed an editorial assistant position at Parsons Press, it was her first step toward "the dream job". Because, honestly, is there anything dreamier than making books for a living? But after five years of lunch orders, finicky authors, and per my last emails, Nora has come to one grand conclusion: Dream jobs do not exist.

With her life spiraling and the Parsons staff sinking, Nora gets hit with even worse news. Parsons is cutting her already unlivable salary. Unable to afford her rent and without even the novels she once loved as a comfort, Nora decides to moonlight for a rival publisher to make ends meet...and maybe poach some of Parsons' authors along the way.

But when Andrew Santos, a best-selling Parsons author no one can afford to lose, is thrown into the mix, Nora has to decide where her loyalties lie. Her new dream job, ever-optimistic Andrew, or...herself and her future.

Nora Hughes is the perfect heroine for anyone looking to get past their own chapter 20-something and build their storybook life.

"A tender reflection on finding your person while you're still desperately searching for yourself." (KJ Dell'Antonia, New York Times best-selling author of The Chicken Sisters)

"A book for book lovers.... It's impossible not to root for Nora!" (Jesse Q. Sutanto, national best-selling author of Dial A for Aunties)

Slow but ends on a good/hopeful note

Getting to know Nora in "Must Love Books" was at first challenging, it was a slow start and there were moments that made be put the pick away for awhile; but as I progressed I started to like her , understand her and sympathies with her. We all have a moment in our lives where we have no clue where we're going and hoping that where you are now is the place to be. Learning about herself and what the future can hold for her definitely put a different perspective on myself ( the reader) on what I can do with my own life. And I hope it can for others who pick up this book...it may take awhile to get there but I believe that's all part of the journey.

Must have proper expectations

If you are looking for a stress break from upcoming holidays, or life in general, this probably isn’t your read. It’s a story, however that will resonate with many, and I’m glad for that. I think that it tries to portray the numbness of depression, but I’m not quite sure if that’s it, or I’m just be generous with a book that never fully sold itself to me.
A note on production: it’s the first audible book of many where there were production stumbles- repeated words and phrases, swallowing or page turning, the narrator wasn’t my preference- too flat- but that is certainly just one persons opinion.
I think the whole book would be much more enjoyable if you go in with the right mind set!

Finding your path through challenge

I really enjoyed this book. I don't understand some of the lower ratings - no, this isn't a typical romance but it's thought provoking and covers complicated issues, if you are just looking for fluff this isn't likely your thing. Our heroine isn't always nice or perfect (thank god) but life isn't that way and this is an inspiring take on a young woman who grows into her own potential. A compelling work from a new, debut author. I hope to see more soon!
