About this listen

New York Times bestselling author Barbara Leaming answers the question: What was it like to be Mrs. John F. Kennedy during the dramatic thousand days of the Kennedy presidency? Here for the first time is the full story of the extravagant interplay of sex and politics that constitutes one of modern history's most spectacular dramas.

Drawing from recently declassified top-secret material, as well as revelatory eyewitness accounts, Secret Service records, and Jacqueline Kennedy's personal letters, bestselling biographer Barbara Leaming answers the question: what was it like to be Mrs. John F. Kennedy during the dramatic thousand days of the Kennedy presidency? Brilliantly researched, Leaming's poignant and powerful chronicle illuminates the tumultuous day-to-day life of a woman who entered the White House at age thirty-one, seven years into a complex and troubled marriage, and left at thirty-four after her husband's assassination. Revealing the full story of the interplay of sex and politics in Washington, Mrs. Kennedy will indelibly challenge our vision of this fascinating woman, and bring a new perspective to her crucial role in the Kennedy presidency.

Excellent book! Whole new view of the season of JFK and his wife Jackie. Use of released notes of Secret Service provides a whole new version of history.

An amazing woman who led a truly amazing life.

Having read many books on Jackie Kennedy, I was afraid this book might be too similar to the others I read about Jackie’s life. I was pleasantly surprised to learn of people in her life and new information about day to day life that I had not read before. I was also surprised by the author’s insight re: the multiple women in Jack Kennedys life. Both Jackie’s tolerance of them and the Presidents slow realization of how each one hurt her. Definitely a good read you won’t regret. A very good book about an extraordinary woman.

Learning the other side of Jackie

I thought I had read everything there was to read about Mrs Kennedy, but this book proved me wrong! An in depth look at what Mrs Kennedy had lived through and achieved in her own right is the essence of this book. I wish it could be placed in a “must read “ category for all Americans! The other side of Jackie emerged in this book, achieving what no other book had done. I strongly urge anyone to read this biography! My conceptions are forever changed.

Some new information

Mrs, Kennedy was such a complex individual, I don’t think anyone Could completely describe and dissect her personality. This has some new information. The narrator was a little annoying with her Degaulle and McMillan voices, but not overly so. The book fills some gaps in our knowledge of this fascinating woman, but she still has an aura of the mysterious, even long after her death….but isn’t that the point.

In-Depth View of Jackie’s Kennedy-Related Life & JFK’s Infidelity

Well-researched, -written, thorough, and intriguing book on Jackie’s sad life. I remember my beloved, very moral, Catholic maternal grandmother having a framed picture of JFK next to a picture of Jesus Christ. Had she known the content of this book, she would have burned the picture of JFK. As an independent woman, it was difficult for me to hear of another woman, Jackie, who had so little self-worth. Nevertheless, a very interesting & juicy book. The one deducted star is because of the narrator’s tiresome voice.

Great book wow she was tolerant

I thought this was a fantastic book with a new light on what Jackie dealt with and all she did. We need another First Lady like her.

Narrator Exaggerated Cadence

Extremely annoying narrator. Every word over emphasized. I had to stop listening. Much redundant material i.e. have read in many other books on the subject.
