Mr. Whiskers is a street-wise stray dog with a nose for trouble and a fondness for two girls he calls the Shenanigan Sisters. So when Misty and Zelda’s professor father is kidnapped, Mr. Whiskers follows that car, picking up vital clues.

Then the two intrepid girls and one great dog follow the trail through the streets of San Francisco, discovering hidden passageways, buried secrets, and even pirate treasure.

But will they be able to rescue Dad? You bet your best biscuit, they will!

Critic reviews

"This lighthearted, fast-paced mystery features an endearing canine lead, two fearless kids, and plenty of wordplay, all of which will appeal to young readers. A mystery both gripping and heartwarming." —Kirkus Reviews

"A scrappy stray mutt with a “ruff”-and-tumble vernacular winningly narrates this snazzy mystery caper. Van Draanen sustains suspense as the sisters navigate clue-filled riddles and secret passageways, uncover long-lost treasure, and outwit a nasty trio of thieves." —Publishers Weekly

"A stray dog who “nose” his way around detective work helps two sibs find and fetch back their “dadnapped” father in this breezy caper. By the end, the slobbery sleuth will have won over readers just as he does the Nanigan clan." —Bulletin

Perfect Puppy Perspective

I adored this book! Told from the viewpoint of Mr.Whiskers the book was hilariously insightful. Michael Crouch’s narration is enchanting!Effortlessly flowing from dog’s voice to children’s to complicated adults, his interpretations delight.
