Publisher's summary

Historian Wiley Sword offers a richly detailed account that captures the vivid personalities behind the battle for Chattanooga. Grant, Thomas, Bragg, William Tecumseh Sherman, Phil Sheridan, William Rosecrans, Pat Cleburne, Jefferson Davis, Abraham Lincoln—all come alive in a narrative that combines furious battle action with behind-the-scenes political maneuvering and astute analysis. Sword's storytelling gifts are augmented by a wealth of contemporary sources—including diaries, letters, and other unpublished material—where generals, officers, soldiers, and politicians offer their perspectives. A saga of war, power, charged rivalries, and small cogs driving great events, Mountains Touched With Fire tells the absorbing story of a turning point in American history.

And you’re there!

Performance is outstanding and story covers one of the most important campaigns of the Civil War. Provides a great military history but also the experience of common soldiers and the public.

Reads like a novel

My interest in the Civil War began while living through the Centennial. I was given the 3 book set of Bruce Cattons Mister Lincoln’s Army. Mr Catton brought to life the army of the Potomac like no other books I’ve read. He did it by telling the very human story as told by the soldiers of all ranks. Wiley Sword has done the same thing with the western armies and soldiers. I am now listening to the Confederacy’s Last Hurrah and it just as good. Recommend this to anyone with an interest in this era.
