About this listen

From the mountains, a witch will rise.

Knight Protector Brynja knows why the people of her village never wander too far. There’s a witch who lives deep in the heart of the mountain. Some say she’s one of the last elves, who will have her vengeance on mankind. Some say she’s a myth, meant to frighten wandering children.

But Brynja knows better, because she was one of those wandering younglings. And she saw the witch as a child. She still sees her, in her nightmares.

When an army of dragon riders shows up at Brynja’s doorstep, the knight protector has to warn her queen. But the only way to the capital is through the impenetrable wall of riders.

The only way, except through the mountain caves. The only way, unless she’s willing to revisit her nightmares.

Nice follow up

I enjoyed Mountain Witch, although I was a little surprised that it didn't pick up where book 1 of the Knight Protector series left off. I liked the premise of this one and the story flowed well, unfolding at a nice pace, albeit a slower one than the first. I also enjoyed the characters, although I wanted to see more interaction between Brynja and the elven witch.

Lynne Ennis again did a great job with the voices, and she's quite lovely to listen to, but I do have the same hesitation I did in the first book where I felt like some of the characters sounded older than they should have. Still a nice performance, though, just like in Squire Derel.

Another well-written story from a very good author

Mountain Witch (Knight Protector, #2), my eighteenth read from author Rachel Ford. Picking up seamlessly from the first book, the action really dials up. This epic fantasy book is so well-written & enjoyable, no matter the genre a Rachel Ford book can be counted on to be entertaining & enjoyable. Lynne Ennis's talented narration made this re-read well worthwhile. I look forward to the next book in the series. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Overcoming the past

Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2020
Our heroine is a knight protector, but that doesn't mean she is fearless. Everyone has their issues...

This is book two of the series, but it actually works pretty well as a standalone. These are new characters and the essentials are presented pretty quickly.

This story offers an interesting blend of science and magic, such as energy weapons, elf magic and dragons. The setting is fascinating and we get to another piece of it in this story, which was really nice. Our characters are well developed with solid backgrounds and distinct personalities. Their interactions make the story come alive and provide an occasional bit of humor as well. The plot includes some intrigue and some action which keep things moving. Overall, highly enjoyable and I am definitely looking forward to the next book.

Highly recommended.

A witch and a struggle to aid a besieged village

When an army of dragon riders descend her village, Brynja and a small party attempt to sneak past the army to retrieve help. When all other paths are blocked, they are forced to take the mountain path, the birthplace of Brynja's nightmares. This is the story of their journey.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy adventures.

Wonderful book.

Great book! It's different than most witch stories I've read. Medieval times meets Star Trek is the best way to describe it.It's definitely not a wicked witch of the west, nor a goody to shoe witch story. This is a story that has to be read in order to be described.

Intriguing

An amazing story about a Mountain Witch. Is she really as dangerous as they say. I was caught up with everything and felt a part of the story. The Narrator made this possible

alright

After listening to the first book I was hoping for more which this one was slow at the beginning. When it did come into its own the book was almost to the end. I hoping the next book makes up for the slowness of this one.
