About this listen

The first biography of rapper Mac Miller, the Pittsburgh cult favorite-turned-rap superstar who touched the lives of millions before tragically passing away at the age of 26

Malcolm James McCormick began making music at a young age and by 15 was already releasing mixtapes. One of the first true viral superstars, his early records earned him a rabid legion of die-hard fans - as well as a few noteworthy detractors. But despite his undeniable success, Miller was plagued by struggles with substance abuse and depression, both of which fueled his raw and genre-defying music yet ultimately led to his demise.

Through detailed reporting and interviews with dozens of Miller's confidants, Paul Cantor brings you to leafy Pittsburgh, seductive Los Angeles, and frenzied New York, where you will meet Miller's collaborators, producers, business partners, best friends, and even his roommates. Traveling deep into Miller's inner circle, Most Dope tells the story of a passionate, gifted young man who achieved his life's ambition, only to be undone by his personal demons.

Most Dope is part love letter, part cautionary tale, never shying away from the raw, visceral way Mac Miller lived his life.

The Legendary, ‘Little’ Mac Miller

Mac was not perfect, and he always reflected his self awareness of that in his music. Expect real, ugly details relating to his demise.

I can empathize with his family who did not endorse this recounting of his career. It’s definitely not a tribute book. But we need books like this one too. His death was so devastating. So devastating.

This is a tragic story being told all over USA

Mac Miller had a substance abuse problem. Not the 1st or the last to travel these waters. Here's the kicker to chew on, Mac MIller should still be alive today, even with a substance abuse problem. The only reason he is dead is because the drugs have been laced with fentanyl . Who is lacing the drugs and why are they doing so should be addressed. Its murder, not overdose.

To MAC,
You unknowingly had come to the place that you were destine for, Maybe it was dark but for you had to travel that road, you had found that moment, the thing, the light, the calm, the truth, the reason, Its a knowing..... i found it. And that you did, the world was ready for you to be Mac Miller............. Then some shit head drug dealer, gang or government agenda murdered you with the hope of making some more money or ridding the population of theses types of people they thought of as trash. Well this trash is your brother and sisters and some of the most talented people that ever walked on this earth. F' you for that you scum bags. NO great reset, resist resist resist.

Must read for any true machead!

I first listened to Mac Miller in 2010 when I downloaded "KIDS" from datpiff.com and he instantly became my favorite music artist of all time. Favorite celebrity. Favorite guy I never got to actually meet. Consuming every YouTube video, mixtape, single that he ever created or even touch, I truly felt like Mac was a friend and someone I grew up with.

Paul Cantor (author) did this book true justice. It felt like I was in an intimate room with many of Mac's friends, acquaintances, and influences over the years, just reminiscing on stories, struggles, and unforgettable moments that made him who he was. The good and the bad.

I'm on the Mac subreddit, many Mac discords, and I still learned a lot about Malcolm and where he came from that I didn't know before from this book. I appreciate that a lot. It seemed like the book spends a lot of time on Mac's time with Rostrum Records through 2014, and does speed up / moves quickly through the 2015-2018 and posthumous years. I would have loved to hear more from Paul about that time period... but then again I can never get enough of ANYTHING when it comes to Mac.

Thank you for taking the time to make this book Paul and great narration. Cheers to the legend that will forever be Mac Miller!
