About this listen

What happens when a man starts life as a corpse?

Two hundred years ago, Frank Victorsson awoke as a semi-dead, monstrous abomination reanimated by his hubris-ridden father Victor Frankenstein. But Frank refused to become the infernal hate his father spewed at the world. He walked away from his origins and into a small Minnesota town overflowing with magic.

Now, Dr. Frankenstein’s other sins want revenge. The Nordic elves of Frank’s new home call him family. The werewolves call him friend. And when the town’s vampires disappear and innocents die, Frank realizes the demon responsible might be the one force on Earth faster and stronger than him - and the one foe capable of pulling to the surface his long-suppressed rage.

Now, Frank must stop a rampaging evil bent on murdering the people he loves the most. But can he save his town without losing himself to the monster he once tamed?

Join the man formally known as Frankenstein’s Monster and the magical people of Alfheim, Minnesota, in what fans are comparing to an urban fantasy blend of Penny Dreadful and Fargo spiced with magic worthy of Patricia Briggs and Neil Gaiman. Scroll up and one-click to immerse yourself in the deeply satisfying Northern Creatures universe today.

Let Frank tell you a story!

I chanced across this title, and the blurb gave me a laugh! With that in mind, I suspected that I'd have a good time... and this Urban-Fantasy didn't disappoint!
It takes place in a small town filled with all things magical, so why not make your protagonist Frankenstein's Monster?!??  That's exactly what Kris Austen Radcliffe did! I gotta say, I just loved Frank (his Nom de guerre) and the fun story he has to tell us! Although, it's probably not necessary to have read Mary Shelley's original Frankenstein to enjoy this tale, I think (having recently read Frankenstein myself) that it made Monster Born a richer story...
So let Frank (excellently voiced by Mike Carnes) tell you a story!

Not your grandfather's monster!

Frank Victorsson, son of Victor Frankenstein did not want to be the monster his father had created. Frank settled in the magical town of Alpine, Minnesota. He became a family member to the elves and a friend to the werewolves who lived in, and protected Alpine. An innocent mistake by a young elf caught on camera by a tourist causes major ripples through the elvish community. This unwanted notoriety brings a malicious visitor to Alpine. Fearing he may have unwittingly played a role in the turmoil, he is determined to identify the source and set things right. I must admit to restarting the story as I did not comprehend what was taking place at first. Paying closer attention the second time rewarded me with a unique and interesting tale. Considering the tantalizing epilogue, I wish I had the next book. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Fantastic Start of Series

I absolutely love this story and was captivated from the start. The characters & the world the author has created is interesting and easy to immerse yourself in. The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. I look forward to more in this series.

A great great story!

Frankenstein after turning his back on his fathers evil wants, he finally finds a safe place to live in Alfin. This is where all the else, wolves and other paranormal creatures go to live in peace along with the mundane. The Mandane or the humans they have all the accoutrements of any other town and this is where we find Frankenstein who goes by Frank with his dog the emperor. As it goes about his business on a normal day out of the blue he sees is long dead father Victor Frankenstein or is it? This is where the trouble begins and although I’m prepared his unknown nemesis fights with Frankenstein with all the eight his father intended. As I said this book was so so good and the narration was awesome I thought this guy was perfect this book and I was so excited to find out book 2 is now available and I can’t wait to get started. If you like paranormal stories you’ll love this book. I don’t usually read paranormal, But something about the summary caught my attention and I am so so glad I got it! I highly recommend this book.

Entertaining but not what I expected

In Monster Born, Frankenstein's monster has survived 200 years to build a life for himself. Elves adopt Frank as part of their family and he lives contently among elves, werewolves, and even vampires. A great evil rises and Frank must protect his family. Interestingly unique and full of action, the story smoothly captures the reader and leaves you anticipating the next book.

very enjoyable listen

Good story, I'm from Minnesota originally so I enjoyed that it takes place there. Narration was very good with distinct voices for each character. Loved the accents. A bunch of teases at the end so I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Not A Bad Start

Seeing as how this particular book series, is one I’ve just more or less started on, I’m choosing to give it some time to grow on me & for me to get further into the serious & possibly more involved with the characters like Akeylah, Frank, Arne, etc. I will say that compared to the Dean Koontz telling of the Frankenstein’s Monster story, this has definitely more of a laid back, tv show esque, relaxed nature. Koontz’s by its nature seems more serious, darker, etc. Both series are good in their own genre’s/takes on a this particular subject. I look forward to seeing what comes next for the citizens of Alfheim, Minnesota.

Frankenstein Twist That Leaves You Wanting More!

This was an amazing book to listen to! When it started out I did not realize that it was about Frankenstein but then it led into more about how he felt as a man even though he was many men in one, but wanted humanity and not the senseless rage of his past. His home is warded by a witch he brought with him to the small little town that later passed on but later helps him from beyond. The wolves and other paranormals in the town have glamors on them so the mundanes have no clue, but they protect each other from the outsiders who could ruin this sanctuary. Frank unknowingly lets his brother come forward from the underworld creating chaos and destruction in his wake until they all work together to send him back. An amazing story that leaves you wanting more.

Interesting

It was a bit slow to start, but it wasn't too bad. Unfortunately, some parts felt long or just hard to keep focused. I really loved the theme, the different point of view of Frankenstein's Monster.
