Story
The year is 1992. Over twenty years have passed since Soviet General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev was assassinated by a crazed gunman. Since that time, the Soviet Union has been put on a course toward economic success—and war. In the Balkans, Yugoslavia's collapse into ethnic violence draws NATO and the Warsaw Pact to the brink of Armageddon. Armies deploy and fleets maneuver. Political intrigue engulfs Moscow and Washington, and paranoia radiates from the Iron Curtain. In the zero-sum game of Cold War, neither side can afford to blink or back down.

Story
The Communist Chinese leadership decides to move up their timetable to become the world’s sole superpower from 2049 to the present. Part of this is to unify Taiwan by force. They believe the best model for accomplishing their wider goals is to copy the comprehensive moves by Imperial Japan. The CCP/PLA thinks they can replicate the successes of the Japanese, while at the same time eliminating the failures. By means of subterfuge, they strike their East Asian neighbors, Western Pacific sea lanes, and the key American naval bases, relying on advanced missile and drone technology.

Story
Almost five years ago, America—as everyone knew it—came to an abrupt end in a spectacular coup d'état. It was called the Liberation by those progressives and radicals that screamed for its outcome; the Fall by its victims whose freedoms were trampled. The White House and the Capitol were overrun by anarchists, and the leaders of the once-proud nation were either imprisoned or sent to social quarantine camps. The president was arrested and eventually died in prison, or so everyone was led to believe. America was rebooted in a new progressive/socialist image, Newmerica.

Story
For years, while Iran and North Korea kept Western diplomats busy, China and Russia have been quietly seeding the US with spies and soldiers. Now, a silent army of occupation lurks inside US borders, and for America, it is already too late. When the assault begins—via an EMP strike that disables the US electrical grid and neutralizes her defenses all in one fell swoop—the US is caught completely unprepared. The nation is lost, and it is up to ordinary citizens to defend their cities, towns, neighborhoods, or even just their families.

Backed by Russian airpower, Syria has begun an operation to push Turkish troops out of Northern Syria. Despite US efforts not to get dragged into the conflict, the US 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines "Lava Dogs", find their hilltop combat outpost encircled and their Kurdish allies under siege. Further west, a Syrian armored advance across the border into Turkey pivots, threatening US troops at the Turkish and NATO airbase of Incirlik. Story
An economic partnership between Japan and Russia dissolves into chaos with a punitive Russian sneak attack on the home islands. The timing is perfect—for the Russians. Rising public hostility has forced Americans to shutter their bases in Japan, putting the Mutual Defense Treaty at risk. Admiral Robert Bondurant, Commander of the US Seventh Fleet, now based in Guam, scrambles to generate a measured response to the Russian aggression when he learns his wife and daughters have vanished from their Yokosuka family residence during the chaos of the Russian attack.

Publisher's summary
To destroy Jade Dragon's lair, an unthinkable weapon is unveiled. Have the Allies gone too far?
The Chinese super-AI had achieved its master plan—an autonomous robotic army, air force, and navy. As President Yao and the People's Liberation Army faced defeat on the battlefield, full command of the PLA was handed over to Jade Dragon, which says it can slay the enemies of China to usher in a new dawn of global Chinese hegemony for the 21st century.
The robots were coming…
With the Terracotta Killers walking the land, Shadow Dragons and Dark Swords prowling the skies, and Sea Dragons roaming the Yellow Sea, a dystopian science fiction nightmare had become real. Machines now dominated the battlefield.
Were these wonder weapons being unveiled too late? Was Jade Dragon's robotic army enough to turn the tide?
Every inch of ground was surveyed, monitored, and fought over as man fought machine for survival. Could the arsenals of democracy outproduce China? Could the West outlast the East, or would Jade Dragon pull off the impossible—and win the AI war?
With victory or defeat balancing on a razor's edge, the Allies refused to go quietly into the night. They had a secret technological breakthrough of their own. Would the ends justify the means if it led to victory, or were the unknown risks too big to accept?
President Delgado was about to order the unthinkable.
You'll love this eighth and final book in the Monroe Doctrine series because the way the limits are pushed is frightening beyond imagination.

It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. Now, a silent army of occupation lurks inside US borders, and for America, it is already too late. Great story line a little disappointed how it ended
I really enjoyed the book the story was great, the narrator was awsome. What I didn't like was their wasn't many battles with th terracotta Robots , I mean the book it says their were thousands being made but there wasn't enough contact with them, also I feel JD was destroyed to easy , in most story's
the robots had a back up system for something like this . thats just me ,

This volume was an excellent listen, especially compared to volume 7. I do appreciate that the story was wrapped up and finished. this series is riveting to say the Least
This last week or so I have binge listened to this series, all 8 volumes, each time I listen to these stories it gets me thinking how perilous our world is and how close we may be to something like these scenarios coming to fruition....
I find these stories fascinating yet somewhat frightening as a mature (late 50's age) adult thinking about the world we are leaving for our upcoming generations.......

Great end to WW3
I really enjoyed the story line of AI being a force to be reckoned with in this series. The research and detail that went into it was great. No misuse of military terms and thoughtfully laid out. The narrator did a superb job and didn't distract from the story. I definitely loved the series and the final book tied it together. Well done!
