About this listen

In the secluded village of Reeth, the Hawthorn family has found their new home, a place shrouded in mystery and dark secrets. The recent murder that took place there has left the house within their budget, but is there a higher price they still have to pay?

On the first night in their new home, Gerald Hawthorn unwittingly releases a Haglard, a sinister creature from local folklore with malevolent intentions. This insidious creature has the power to mimic voices and sounds, tormenting its victims to breaking point before going in for the kill.

With trickery and paranoia turning the Hawthorns against each other, they must uncover the truth before it's too late.

Mockingbird is a modern fairy tale horror from the macabre mind of Steve McElhenny.

Human vs. Hobgoblin

The story may start off slow but when it picks up it really picks up. I won't give away any spoilers but I will say this you won't be disappointed. The narrator could have been a little better but he did not distract from the story. The book is unique and entertaining and will keep you guessing and trust me you won't see it coming. This is my honest and unbiased review here that I leave of my own volition.

Unique and talented

McElhenney has a unique style; his humor shines through even when he's writing horror. Always entertaining, and always with an optimistic view of humanity - even as he parodies our foibles.

Alan Aldersley-Byrne is a talented reader. He conveys the mood of the piece well, keeps all the character voices distinguishable, and has taught me a few things about UK accents. I would love to workshop with this guy.
