"Moby Dick" (noto anche come "La Balena" - The Whale) dello scrittore americano Herman Melville è oggi considerato uno dei più importanti libri della letteratura mondiale. La storia racconta le avventure di un marinaio, Ismaele, e del suo viaggio intorno al mondo sulla baleniera Pequod comandata dal capitano Achab a caccia di capodogli e balene, e in particolare della gigantesca Balena Bianca (in realtà un capodoglio) che dà il titolo al romanzo.
Tuttavia in "Moby Dick" c'è molto di più: le scene di caccia alla balena sono intervallate dalle riflessioni scientifiche, religiose, filosofiche e artistiche del protagonista Ismaele, alter ego dello scrittore, rendendo il viaggio un'allegoria e al tempo stesso un'epopea epica. Al momento della sua pubblicazione, nel 1851, venne accolto tiepidamente dal pubblico e dalla critica: il suo pessimismo, lo scetticismo religioso e la tragica visione della vita non incontravano i gusti dei contemporanei di Melville.
"Moby Dick" infatti, oltre a essere uno straordinario romanzo d'avventura, è un complesso studio del conflitto tra l'uomo e le imperscrutabili forze naturali che lo sovrastano; conflitto che prende forma attraverso le figure del capitano Achab e di Moby Dick. Achab ha un'unica ossessione, un unico scopo: quello di uccidere il Leviatano, che in uno scontro precedente l'ha privato di una gamba. La caccia all'animale, senza posa e dal tragico esito, oscilla lungo il corso del romanzo tra descrizione realistica e valenza allegorica, in una complessa narrazione strutturata in differenti livelli di significato.

Piero Baldini ci regala un' interpretazione strepitosa. Uno splendido audiolibro preparato con cura e letto con straordinaria bravura. di certo il migliore audiolibro in cui mi sia imbattuto finora. consigliatissimo!

Non date retta a chi dice che Moby Dick è noioso, difficile, lungo, con questo lettore ed in questa traduzione è facile lasciarsi trasportare fino alla fine. Troverete ironia, intelligenza, poesia, tanti stili e tante storie. Bellissimo
