Otte år tidligere mistede hun sin mor, og byen mistede dermed sin elskede bibliotekar. Mor og datter delte en stor kærlighed til litteraturen, men den lidt generte June føler ikke, hun kan leve op til landsbyboernes minder og høje tanker om sin mor.
Da biblioteket pludselig er lukningstruet, slår en excentrisk gruppe af lokale lånere sig sammen for at redde det. De vil have June med om bord, men hvis de skal lykkes med deres redningsmission, må hun tro på både projektet og sig selv.
Tør hun forlade bøgernes trygge favn og begive sig ud i en verden fuld af venskaber, muligheder og kærlighed?
