About this listen

A gripping coming-of-age story that explores identity, sexuality, friendship and betrayal for fans of We Were Liars, Go Ask Alice and The Girls.

Friend. Lover. Victim. Betrayer. When you look in the mirror, what do you see?

Sixteen-year-old friends Red, Leo, Naomi and Rose are like anyone their age: figuring out who they are and trying to navigate the minefield of school and relationships. Life isn't perfect, but they're united by their love of music and excited about what the future holds for their band. That is until Naomi dies in tragic circumstances, leaving behind only one word - 'sorry'.

What awful truth was she hiding? What dark secret was lurking behind her seemingly sunny persona? And how did Red, the self-styled protector of the group, fail to spot the warning signs? While Rose turns to wild partying and Leo is shrouded by dark moods, Red sets out to uncover the truth and find out what - or perhaps who - was responsible for Naomi's death.

It's a journey that will cause Red's world to crumble, exposing the dark and dangerous truth behind the fragile surface of their existence. Nothing will ever be the same again, because once a mirror is shattered, it can't be fixed.

Mirror Mirror validates its title.

Mirror Mirror validate its titles. It shows some image of you and it pushes you to find yourself within the book.

It is a very interesting book pulling the listener towards the story which is yet to unfold. You somehow already know what is about to happen in the very next moment but you never know what's coming in the next chapter. This is because you connect to each one of the characters.

I personally felt like each one of the characters is somehow showing my different side. Red - me in the quest to find myself. Leo - Me when I push everyone one away when m actually hurt. Rose - Me when I act confident in the front but in real m the most insecure and anxious person.
It takes about 70% of the book to gradually set the plot and while it does so it tells you about each character bit by bit. Along with the new information you keep on editing the image of each character in your mind and you keep on relating them to yourself or someone in your real life. This my friend is a sign of a great fiction.

The book is about some teenagers who live in London. So the narration uses British accent and is very apt for each character it creates the perfect image for every scene depicted in the book. It becomes a little funny during the Q&A Section with Cara. This you'll have to experience for yourself. You'll know what I meant by funny.

The book takes into account many different issues in a teenager's life like - bullying, sexuality, family problems, not knowing who they are, peer pressure, the society, constant changes, etc...
Having said that this isn't just for the teenagers. Any person can relate to this book. It is just that as a teenager every person gets out from that protective bubble of their parents and faces each one of the problems for the very first time.
The book lays each one of them at different points in the story.
