Not For True Beginners, But Nice to Listen To

I've practiced mindfulness for a very long time, before it was as popular as it is now. Even though I have a lot of experience, I still like to check out books and audiobooks on the topic. You never know where you'll find a new insight or an interesting practice. The title states this book is for beginners. However, it lacks foundational information at the beginning about what mindfulness is. It jumps rather quickly to exercises. As such, it may not be clear to the true beginner how a particular exercise reflects the tenets of mindfulness--or what those tenets really are. This book needed more of a foundation for a true beginner. If mindfulness is nothing new to you, you may enjoy the mindfulness exercises. Most are ones you will be familiar with, but a few do have some twists. I didn't think some information shared truly had to do with mindfulness. For instance, a section about mindful bedtime routines included information about sleep hygiene. Arguably, the best part of this audiobook is the narrator. She is enthusiastic and invites the listener in, a pleasure to listen to. I actually prefer listening to mindfulness exercises so I can simply follow along without having to pause and pick up/put down a book. If you are completely new to mindfulness and mindfulness exercises, I recommend doing a little pre-reading about mindfulness, perhaps in blogs or a well-written book, to get a firm understanding and deeper appreciation of the varied underpinnings of mindfulness. Once you have a sense of that, the exercises are enjoyable, and for the most part, mindful!
