Narrator does not do book justice

Audiobook review only: ***

The premise of the book is interesting.  Two people, Karan and Nina, met through friends and began hooking up whenever Karan would come into town.  Their relationship is purely sexual, they both agreed to no strings attached.  Until Nina becomes pregnant. Karan does what he thinks is right and proposes even though he doesn't want to get married.  Nina, not wanting to get married either, tells him no.  So, they decide to be co-parents but not a couple.

The book deals with the racial and cultural impact of pregnancy and marriage on the family dynamic, which is HUGE in this book, and is told through Neil's voice, who is a friend to Nina and brother-in-law to Karan.  I believe the author chose Neil as the narrator to tie in previous stories so that this book could either be a standalone read or continue as part of the series.

I had a hard time getting into this book because of the narration.  There are way too many characters mentioned to keep track of and the narrator sounds as if he is literally just reading the words in front of him.  The voice is soft spoken and there is not enough emotion in his voice as he portrays the various characters.

I'm sure the book version is much better.  The storyline is compelling and will make you feel all the emotions. The end was something I did not see coming so that's a plus. I just couldn't "feel" the emotion of the narrator throughout.

Wonderful story

This is an amazing story of love and growth. There is so much depth to this story. The story is primarily about Karan and Nina, but also his extended family and is told by Neil’s POV. it was an interesting change up. I laughed, got mad and cried listening to this story. And, I haven’t read the first two to have the connection to the characters. It was an excellent story, with a bit of a cliffhanger I did not see coming! Well done!

A diverse love story with many lessons

I have mixed feelings regarding this book, but overall I enjoyed it. The book has a good story line packed with many lessons and characters. Unfortunately, in this instance the book’s length hindered the full impact of the story’s meaning as there were several instances when the story line felt like it was rushed and missing additional explanations. I also felt that Nina’s character needed to be better portrayed with further character development. The book felt like it needed to be at least another 50-100 pages to fill in gaps from the story line and expand character development. However, with that said, I enjoyed the intent of the story’s lessons. I also enjoyed the characters and the experiences of the different couples. It was also interesting reading about the influence of family cultural values on the different couple’s relationships. I really enjoyed all the different couples and the challenges they faced along with the growth dynamics, especially amongst Nina and Karan. Last, the ending took me by surprise. It was sad yet endearing. The quality of the narration was good overall. The narration was clear and concise without extra breath sounds or prolonged pauses. Final rating for this book is Liked it and I would recommend it! I look forward to the others in the series.
