About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Shannon Hale has penned numerous award-winning novels. In this follow-up to Austenland, Charlotte Kinder is eager to escape the numbness she feels after her divorce. Deciding to get away, she visits the Regency-themed Pembrook Park resort in England, where talented actors set the perfect scene. But with everyone playing a role, it’s hard to distinguish reality from fantasy. So when Charlotte’s heart stirs, she wonders if she’s simply caught up in the experience - or if her ability to feel is finally returning.

Northanger Abbey-esque

I thoroughly liked this outing back at Shannon Hale's Pembroke Manor. Having new relatable characters in a familiar setting with Andrews and Charming as the wonderful supports that they are was nice. Based on one of my favorite books (which isn't given as much praise as it deserves) this book had me suspecting everyone.

Quick & Lighthearted

This was a fun book to listen to. I really loved the narrator’s internal dialogue.

Very enjoyable! :)

Any additional comments?

This book was a most enjoyable listen! :D The narration = AWESOME. The story line = highly entertaining! It took a little while to get into, but once it got started... it was amazing!
NOTE: this book is not really "family friendly". It swears once or twice (not very bad though)... but it discusses some harder topics that wouldn't be the best for children, or even early teens.

Good Road Trip "Read"

My adult daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Austenland, and we're not disappointed by the sequel. The main character's internal conversations were, at times, excessive, but did not take away from the overall story. The narrator did an excellent job! Highly recommend for a long road trip.

As good as the first

I very much enjoyed the first installment of Austenland. This second endeavor is as good or even better, than the first. The protagonist, Charlotte, is a mix of fears and qualms but she has an inner core that is strong and resilient. She's just forgotten. I'm very glad to see Miss Charming back doing what she does best; speaking English in an awful accent but with a heart of gold. Even Mrs. Wattlesbrook has her moments. Colonel Andrews is as debonair as ever. The new gentlemen are an entertaining mix of taciturn and beguiling and much fun!

Love Austenland

I didnt think this book was as good as the first but I still enjoyed it. It was funny and also a great "who done it" book. I would recommend if you liked Austenland.

Good start - but gets bogged down

Returning to Austenland in the second book, I got the playful escape I expected but not the same quality of plot and ambiance as the first book. The story begins well, but bogs down in the "mystery story" within the overall story, including the self-doubts and fears of the main character. The juxtaposition of modern and Regency life is not as strong as the first book, which I missed. If you seek lighthearted escape, you will enjoy it but if you are seeking transportation to Austenland, then perhaps not.

Loved It!

I thoroughly enjoyed Austenland, but somehow loved Midnight In Austenland even more! Shannon Hale can beautifully express her heroine's thoughts in a way that is somehow sincere and clever and funny all at the same time. I've listened to it over and over.

Entertaining and Engaging

Super fun reader! I laughed out loud and found myself talking like her.
This is not meant to be serious literature, and it does not take itself too seriously. If you want to let go and live in a story for awhile, this book will do that for you. Yet still feeling very relatable.
I’ve listened to it many times. Never disappointed.
