Middlemarch is a novel by the English author Mary Anne Evans, who wrote as George Eliot. It first appeared in eight installments in 1871 and 1872. Set in Middlemarch, a fictional English Midland town, from 1829 to 1832, it follows distinct, intersecting stories with many characters. Issues include the status of women, the nature of marriage, idealism, self-interest, religion, hypocrisy, political reform, and education. Despite comic elements, Middlemarch uses realism to encompass historical events.

Perfect narration of a great novel.
This is a real tour de force with over a hundred characters. It is superb reading of a great English novel from Alison Larkin, perhaps best known for her narration of The Complete Novels of Jane Austen. This performance is nuanced, deep but light and in true Larkin style, she makes a novel written a long time ago accessible to the modern ear. I absolutely love this audio book.
Middlemarch is a very famous novel for a reason - and it needs a narrator who can make it really easy to listen to. Alison Larkin is that narrator. I loved every minute of it, and so did my daughter.
