About this listen

The third volume in the best-selling Wideacre trilogy. Set in the 18th century, they launched the career of Philippa Gregory, the best-selling author of The Other Boleyn Girl and Three Sisters, Three Queens.

Meridon, a desolate Romany girl, is determined to escape the hard poverty of her childhood. Riding bareback in a travelling show while her sister, Dandy, risks her life on the trapeze, Meridon dedicates herself to freeing them both from danger and want.

But Dandy, beautiful, impatient, thieving Dandy, grabs too much too quickly. And Meridon finds herself alone, riding in bitter grief through the rich Sussex farmlands towards a house called Wideacre - which awaits the return of the last of the Laceys.

A wonderful ending to an amazing Trilogy! I've never laughed so loud or cried so hard listening to an audible. Charlie Sanderson was simply incredible in her many voices. Simply amazing!

Grand Finale

Meridon and the rest of the books in this series, made me so mad at the characters for their selfish stupidity, I found myself begging them in my head to open their eyes, do better, be kinder, think! Philipa Gregory has a way with making the characters so excellantly flawed that as a reader, you can not help getting emotionally involved. I constantly found myself either crying for Meridon or thinking her a naive fool. She is the perfect jaded, pig-headed teenaged girl. I kept getting so mad at her for her willful ignorance, I would have to stop listening just to cool my own temper. As a mother of former teenage girls and boys, I wanted to tell this girl that she was ruining her life before giving herself a chance to live. Lady Clara is the perfect example of what is wrong with parts of human nature. The human images in this series are so wonderfully written, the reader feels the love, heartache, disappointment, anger, and pride in the characters as if they are family members. Philipa Gregory is a fantastic artist with the written word. I hope that someday, someone writes a screen play or 3 for this series.

Cringeworthy, but sooo good.

Thought I had the mystery figured out, but was so wrong in the end! Glad I was. I hate it when they are too easy to figure out. The voice talent was lovely and the writing was specific enough to envision each scene without being overly wordy! If you don’t enjoy this quick listen, perhaps you’re a bit more sophisticated than me!

Fun, entertaining listen

this series is so much cringe. I was really power housing through it. this one, really made it worth it all. I had to take a mental break through in the hardest part of it. it truly is an original story that doesn't gloss over uncomfortable parts. I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster for a good full-time job worth of listening. felt like tickle torture.

worth finishing the series

Characters were intriguing and the story line was well orchestrated. I do want to compliment the performers on an exceptional portrayal of complex characters. Would highly recommend.

Fabulous!

I honestly didn’t like book 1 & 2 but by this time I felt I had to finish the series. Book 3 is much better and I can say I did like it. I’m glad to say it had a good ending. Still, if I had it to do again I’d skip the whole series.

Better than book 1 & 2

This was great listening and my favorite Age. I always find the rules of Society intriguing. I also find it galling what women’s rights back then. Philippa Gregory is one of my favorite authors.

Fairytale

I already know exactly how this story will end. I really like the narrators accent though.

Of the 3 books, this one has been my favourite because it has a happy ending. The first two books, while essential to this last one were morbid and morose and left me feeling very forlorn.

Finally! A happy ending!
