About this listen

Brigham Theodore is a courtroom brawler, a criminal defense attorney who spends his time slugging it out with the government in court. A year after winning his biggest case, he finds himself at a new firm defending clients of every kind. Drug dealers, gangsters, con men, and thugs are the people he defends every day. For him, the fight is what matters.

As the new hotshot lawyer in town, Brigham is referred an engineer accused of euthanizing his wife who was dying of pancreatic cancer. Brigham believes the case to be an easy one, a plea deal down the line for a sympathetic husband. But Vince Dale, once the prosecutor on Brigham's biggest case and now the County Attorney, remembers the sting of defeat and refuses to make a plea bargain on the case. With nothing left to lose, Brigham must use every ounce of fight he has in him to defend a man who has the full weight of the government pressing down on him, and who might not survive it.

Great author

Thoroughly enjoy Victor Methos’ books. This was a great 2nd story to the first Neon Lawyer series. The narrators pronunciation of the word been threw me off. These stories are gritty and it didnt fit. Otherwise great audible!!!

The next phase with Brigham.....

This is the second book in the Brigham Theodore series. We met Brigham in the first book when he was a brand new lawyer and was put in the untenable position of having to defend a capital penalty case. I really loved that book. I fell in love with Brigham immediately and he was such a very likeable MC. In this second book, he has started his own practice with Molly and apparently the practice is thriving. And so we begin....

Where I felt like this book lost a little was that there were several different pathways that the book went into. There was Brigham and the case of Ted - the husband who was on trial for the "apparent" mercy killing of his wife. Then there was another case that is mentioned that he is working on where the prosecutor doesn't want to deal. Then, we get these random POV's from Molly (and what the heck Molly? Seriously?), then some random POV from an awful lady (the prosecutor) I think her name was Deborah. Anyway, things felt scattered. Really scattered.

I do enjoy listening/reading the actual trial dialogue. I think that is really where Victor Methos excels. There is a twist at the end that I wasn't really a fan of. Was it realistic? Probably. But as I mentioned before, I like Brigham so much that it just made my heart hurt. But for me to FEEL that much - that means the author has done his job.

Loved it!

Another gentle read from an author, who can give me goosebumps at night while listening to his other books. I thoroughly enjoyed both of the Brigham Theodore books. They both gave me good stories, and a feeling that there are still good people in the world after listening to them. I will not insert a spoiler.

Interesting! Enjoyed it!

Thought the narrator was very good, and the story very well told. I guess me saying that the law is complicated, is an understatement. It is fascinating what lawyers have to be able to know, analyze, recall, and in addition also have very good instincts. Very good courtroom lawyers that is, such as the lawyer characters written about in this book.

Inside view of legal system and it is not pretty

My legal education was received two notable television series: Perry Mason and Law and Order. I also like the novels written by Scott Turow, John Grisham and other popular writers if legal thrillers. I’m new to the works of Victor Methos.
Mercy is the story of a man accused of the murder of his wife who was dying of incurable pancreatic cancer. As someone who had had to face the inevitable demise of a loved one with an incurable disease, i felt so sorry for the husband and father of three children, who ended his wife’s suffering with a lethal injection of morphine. The premise called into question what my end of life decisions would be.
As a non-attorney Methos gives the reader an inside view of the legal system and it isn’t pretty.
The ending left me satisfied but sad.

Great job Mr. Methos!

This is a hard listen. I will be listening to this book again. I do reccomend you listen. Quite frankly I
found the ending chapters shocking and quite disturbing. Be careful what you wish for! I gave this one
4 stars.
