About this listen

After a grueling battle that cost him dearly, mercenary captain Viktor Mandrake wants nothing more than to get his ship repaired, let his men have leave, and spend time relaxing with Ankari. Entrepreneur, schemer, and leaser of his company's one and only pink shuttlecraft, she has become the woman he loves and wants to keep at his side.

But as soon as Viktor sets foot on the space station Midway Five, it becomes clear that the Galactic Conglomeration Fleet wants him arrested for past grievances. As a mercenary, confronting the Fleet isn't wise (it's not wise for anyone else, either). Normally, Viktor would collect his people and depart, but a mysterious disease has resulted in a quarantine, leaving him stuck on the station with no access to his ship or his crew. Fortunately, he has Ankari with him, but unfortunately, Ankari's family has been pointing out all of the reasons why she shouldn't be flying around on a mercenary vessel. And he's not certain they're wrong.

If Viktor and Ankari can't find a way off the station before the Fleet ships arrive, Viktor may never escape. Worse, no matter what happens, he risks losing Ankari forever.

Love the Action; Love Mandrake Company’s Characters

Who doesn’t love tough, bad boys that are trying to do better! I love the interplay between the characters and the wit that the author puts throughout her book. The plots and the mechanics throughout the worlds that the author describes opens your eyes! Her romance scenes will definitely bring you to a sweat! All in all, a great series!

I wish there were more series like this.

This is a new-to-me author. I purchased this 7bk audio series on a recent sale and am glad I did. So far I have been very satisfied. I enjoy Space Opera w action and adventure, and a touch of romance but have had a difficult time finding something I like. This series is fast moving and fun, and not as filled with intimacy or politics (doom and gloom) like some. I wish I was aware of other series like this.

Such an exciting story! An excellent continuation of "The Mandrake Company" series!

This 5th book of "The Mandrake Company," deepens the story of Ankari and Victor with a backdrop of fast action and challenging circumstances for them, the ship's company of mercenaries, and Ankari's business. Lindsey Buroker/Ruby Lionsdrake never fails to thrill all listeners with amazing adventures and deep character development that entrances and enraptures her readers. This is a stellar series (pun intended)!

Visiting old friends

Book 5 of the series goes back to revisit Ankari and Viktor’s relationship from book one. It allows the couple to overcome some of their uncertainties in regards to where they are heading. This has been an excellent series so far where there is a lot of adventure and a lot of romance.

Love the series

I love this series and was looking forward to listening to this one. I wasn’t disappointed. I listened to them out of order but they are great. Can’t wait to see the next one.

Enjoyable

I enjoy this author’s books. Jill Redfield did a great job narrating the story. The story can stand alone but is best if you read in order.

Unnecessary relationship drama

I wish I had skipped this installment. Instead of a fresh new adventure with a new romantic couple, this was a rehash of book 1’s Victor/Ankari relationship and a forgettable “who’s after Capt Mandrake now?” plot. Without new romance, this needed a lot more action and humor. Sadly, neither stepped up.
