About this listen

"A Big John Kellerman Adventure: Men of Iron Will is a sweeping epic that takes one man through the Civil War and beyond. This is action, adventure and gunplay all rolled together from one of the great Western storytellers of today..." Douglas R. Cobb!

In Cobb’s novel, Men of Iron Will, we meet Big John Kellerman, a man on a mission to avenge the destruction of his hometown by one of the infamous guerrilla warfare groups of the Confederate army. Kellerman joins the Pinkerton agency, and he successfully foils what could have been a disastrous plot to destroy the still-healing Union. After this success, Allen Pinkerton pairs John with Pauline Dougherty, and the two are sent on another important assignment. Men of Iron Will explores some of the darker aspects of the American Civil War - the evil sides of men and how they showed their loyalty to the Confederacy.

Men of iron Will

"Men of Iron Will, Douglas Cobb has written a great story, and deserves the four stars and maybe I should add another. I find his stories interesting and extremely factful it is very apparent that, he does his research. I learn new things every time I read a Douglas Cobb adventure. Cobb has a compelling way of drawing the reader into his stories, and holding their interest. Now that being said I am not a big fan of auto books, and have found them in the most part a little boring. I have several out myself from my earlier writing and finding the right narrator at a price that is affordable is difficult and I was never altogether satisfied. I have always wanted Sam Elliot to narrate one of mine, but my co-workers think my own voice would do excellently, but I don't know about that, when I hear my recorded voice I don't like it. I felt that his auto book started out a little slow and I had to make myself sit and listen. I am glad that I did, for all to be hold I found myself evolved in the story and began to appreciate the narrator. Richard Bennett also deserves to be accommodated for his role in this production. I believe auto books have there place and are great company for driving. Years a go when I commuted to a hospital to work that was sixty miles from home I would have rather had an auto book for company than the repeated greatest hits in C and W. Over all I would recommend this book to the western readers. Take it on your commute or have a cup of Arbukle's and sit down and enjoy." Clint Clay

Authentic

What hit me most about this story was its authenticity. Cobb seems to have the actions and speech for the old west down pat. I enjoyed listening to this very much. I have hardly read any books in this genre but am rethinking that decision. I would recommend this story and Cobb's work to anyone.
