About this listen

Andie Miller is ready to move on with her life. She wants to marry her fiancé and leave behind everything in her past, especially her ex-husband, North Archer. But when Andie tries to gain closure with him, he asks one final favor of her. A distant cousin has died and left North the guardian of two orphans who have driven away three nannies already, and things are getting worse. He needs someone to take care of the situation, and he knows Andie can handle anything....

When Andie meets the two children, she realizes the situation is much worse than she feared. Carter and Alice aren’t your average delinquents, and the creepy old house where they live is being run by the worst housekeeper since Mrs. Danvers. Complicating matters is Andie’s fiancé’s suspicion that this is all a plan by North to get Andie back. He may be right, because Andie’s dreams have been haunted by North since she arrived at the old house. And that’s not the only haunting....

Then her ex-brother-in-law arrives with a duplicitous journalist and a self-doubting parapsychologist, closely followed by an annoyed medium, Andie’s tarot card–reading mother, her avenging ex-mother-in-law, and her jealous fiancé. Just when Andie’s sure things couldn’t get more complicated, North arrives to make her wonder if maybe this time things could just turn out differently....

For Paranormal Fans

I am NOT a fan of paranormal romance. (other than the Inn Boonsboro trilogy). I got sucked into this story because i didn’t know what it was about except that it was about 2 kids. Got bored and fell asleep about 2/3 of the way through and just went on from where I woke up, when I usually go back to hear what I missed. I think If you like paranormal stories, you’ll like this one. I liked the characters, loved the performance but hated the ghosts. Just not my thing.

Great Narrator, good story

Loved the narrator for this book. Her voice made me love the small girl in the story. Story was good, liked the characters and could not put it down. Worth the credit.

Generally an easy listen fantasy

The listen was entertaining and didn't take a lot of thought or concentration. Enjoyed it while doing dull, repetitive tasks. Only con was the little girl in the book is slightly annoying.

More of a Light-hearted Ghost Story

I found this book via an Audible sale in the "romance section." Although there is a re-blossoming of a relationship between the main character and her ex-husband, this is a side dish to the entree, which is more about the protagonist discovering herself, her maternal desires to someone else's children who are haunted by ghosts, and a life that will truly make her happy. There were some plot holes, and some parts were a bit silly to me, but overall I was entertained. If this at all sounds appealing to you, then this is worth a credit. If you're looking for a book where romance is a central theme to the plot or don't like ghost stories, unlike this title, this book won't work for you this time or any other time.

I have no complaints of the narrator who did a nice job with the material.

3.5 stars

3.5 stars. This book was really cute. It went a whole different direction in the second half which kept me from taking it seriously but definitely a good light read.

Great reading of a fave book

First off, I'm a huge fan of Jennifer Crusie's books and have read them all at least a couple of times. I've listened to a couple of other audiobooks of her novels which were so awful they very nearly ruined the books for me. This time the reader fit the book perfectly. You always know exactly which character is speaking, and she did an especially good job with the voice of the main character. I think this audiobook actually made me enjoy the original story MORE then I had before - the sign of a successful audiobook. Highly recommended, especially to Jennifer Crusie fans.

What a Crusie!

Heard a lot about Ms Cruise @Smart Bitches' podcasts so I decided to give her a try. Really enjoyed not only the story but the performance of the narrator. Characters sounded real. I found myself smiling at times. A light read but with enough mystery and romance to keep me entertained.

4.5 Stars

The narrator was excellent. She really brought the characters to life. LOL funny. The romantic element was subtle enough that I didn't feel like I was listening to bad porno. The hero isn't present for most of the book, which does inhibit the romantic development to a degree. It's not as much of a problem as it could be, since this is a second-chance romance (which ventures well into chick-lit). The addition of the ghosts made for an exciting and occasionally chilling plot. There were a couple of things which bugged me, but not enough to derail me from the story. I found it hard to stop listening and get off the Stairmonster (which should tell anyone who's ever used one how good this book is). This was my first Jennifer Cruise; it won't be my last. I'll be looking for more of this narrator and this team.
